if the CC morgan registery was weighted for PL and DMPL----as it should be (and I doubt pcgs or anyone else can make a convincing argument to me why it shouldn't).....this set would not be #1.
Currently there is only one set in the top 10 that has 3 out of 13 coins graded pl or dmpl. If the registery were weighted for these designations, you'd see exactly the opposite--all pl's and dmpl's in the registery. I honestly believe morgan collectors of this calibre would prefer cameo pl's and dmpl's to the boring specticle shown in that auction; but thery're too caught up in the competition, not in building a set that satisfies them personally.
i wish pcgs would "flip the switch" on this registery, instantly recalculating the scores to take into account pl and dmpl designations. it would be fun to watch sets in the double digits make it to the top, and the top sets fall down the ladder. in my dreams......
I respect the collectors in the upper bracket of that registery who have the nuts to build cameo or toned sets..... they pay alot more $$ for coins with EYE APPEAL and get zero recognition.
but this is just my opinion.
