They definitely appear to be old coins or medals of some kind.

Top coin, on a guess: Lowlands, Brabant. 14th-15th century. Might be able to get more info on that later.
Bottom coin appears to be a 1 Real cob from 1674, Lima Mint.

First thing that leaps to mind on the top one, is 1300's-1400's Anglo-Gallic. But like Civitas, that's a guess.
Does have a somewhat French look to it, but different from other French coins of the period I've seen.
I think Civitas nailed it on the cob coin.

They've got some value, definitely. We'd pay you $40.00 for the top coin without even knowing what it is. The cob has some value too, but it's a common denomination in not such great shape. Maybe a retail value of $10-$15. You could probably find one on ebay for $8.00 in that kind of shape.
