It is a business decission and not a resource one. What does PCGS get out of adding new sets right now? More people slabbing? They cannot handle the load now. Why not wait until thigs slow down and then give themselves a boost hen they need it. Why do you think they are adding Euro sets when no one wants them? To try and get people to want them!!!

Robert, the Registry sets are a work in process. Sure it is nice to be able to post a favorite collection. Mine right now is a complete Lincoln cent proof set 1909 thru 2003. Guess what? I can't do it because the registry is broken up between wheatbacks and memorials and also includes three memorial doubled die proof varieties that I don't collect. I could sit here on this board and whine to DH but I realize MY desires may not represent the majority. From what I've read on your prior posts here and to David, you will get your wish soon. Just be patient. This whole online registry thing is only three years old. We have a lifetime to enjoy. Good luck. Steveimage

I think DH is working on the type sets right now, and they are taking a lot of time.

    Rob,

The longer it takes to get that 1872 set up the more likely it is that you'll actually have real competition. image

P.S. I could have warned you on that 1872 Quarter...give me a call if you ever want a more detailed description.
Do not fall into the error of the artisan
who boasts of twenty years experience in his craft
while in fact he has had only one year of experience...
    twenty times.
  • Steve, to be honest I could quite patiently wait as long as I was given honest, and
up to date information. I have been hearing that they are going to be continuing
the mint/proof sets for a year now. Each time that I ask for the status, I am told
that it will just be a few months. My big complaint is that I am being told one thing
and seeing another. I don't doubt that last April they had good intentions of having
all of the Seated Liberty years up around August. I also have no doubt that in October
they intended to put 10-20 years a month up starting around December. But if they
are going to change the plan for whatever reason, then don't we deserve the courtesy
of a notification? It would be easy for PCGS to put a note on this forum at the start
of each month saying what their plan is for that month. If they don't get everything
that they planned, then next month put another post up, say, "Sorry, we fell behind",
and put up the new plan for that month. If they go further than planned, great. Still
    put the current plan up.

Yes, I am biased as to what I would like to see added next. image But basically there is
no progress occurring. I would not be upset if 15-20 sets had been added and mine
was not included. At least then I would be seeing progress and would know that
eventually what interests me would get started. Right now, there is no indication
that we are anywhere close to making any dent in the backlog.

    Rob,

Just so you know, there are 3 people dedicated full time to the Registry programs, Gayle Kean, Cosetta Robbins and myself. We have been working long hours for over 3 years and are doing the very best we can. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and even though it may seem that nothing is happening, that is far from the truth. For example, my number one priority right now is to pull together all the sets for the new Colonial registry. This is a complicated task. And yes, we are dependent on David to get us the weighting back for the mint, proof and type sets. But as another member implied, DH is also very busy with running PCGS's grading operations... no small job. Simply put, we must prioritize and by doing so, we can't make everyone happy.

I apologize for not being able to give you a specific timeline when you emailed me about the 1872 mint and proof sets. It would be irresponsible for me to do so. However, I do want to inform you that I received the 1872 weighting back from David Hall early this morning and we are working on loading the sets now. These along with two other requests, the 1859 and 1892 sets, will be online this week.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to email me directly.

    Hi BJ:

What is the status of the new typeset registries? Is progress being made?

    Cheers

Greg - We haven't started on any new type sets yet. I'm still waiting for the weighting to come back from DH for the current 1792-1964 set. Once that is taken care of, we'll start on the new sets.

Bruce - The list that is on the news page is a very small part of the big to-do list. We've got years of work ahead of us!
