What If PCGS Graders' Jobs Were Outsourced to India, Would Turn Around Time Improve, What About Cus

Idle musings, but maybe it will be the thing of the future. If this is off topic, I ask your forgiveness. image

Turn around times would decrease, shipping times would increase, offsetting any perceived benefit. (I don't even want to think of that shipping nightmare.)

Slabbing fees of $5 per coin would be worth the longer wait to receive them back from India. Maybe that is where they send them now (that could be the reason for the delay) image

Ha! With annual salaries of $6K each (which is what my company pays), you could get 40 graders in India for the $250K/yr that David Hall pays a single grader here. Let's give it a try!

Fees would go down but you would not be able to understand the grade. Grades would be "EmmmFss Seeexty Sevben" of something similar.

we would also have a new highest attainable grade:

The PCGS graders jobs could not be outsourced to India because as everyone already knows there are only like 6 or 7 people on the entire planet who can accurately and consistently grade coins, and they all already work for PCGS.....I thought this was common knowledge, LOL

What makes you think fees would go down? I suspect that the only thing that would happen is that profits would skyrocket. Outsourcing is going to be one of the hottest topics around in the next few years. Here in Michigan it already is. Be afraid, be very afraid.

  • Hey, don't get me going on outsourcing. My engineering job at my prior company was "outsourced" to Vietnam. It starts gradually with the company getting their toes wet...sending a little bit of work out....reassuring the current employees that its only extra work that is being shipped out and their jobs are ok and then..........BAM! Fortunately, I saw through the BS and started looking for another job as soon as they announced they were sending a "little" work out. I was lucky that I had a six month lead time. I got my pink slip the same day I got the offer letter from my current job. I was lucky. I know several people that have been out of work for more than a year (one guy almost 2 years).

Well the solution to that is we gather those people up and ship them to India as well. First you sell the idea to them by pointing out to them what the buying power of $20,000 a month is in India, Then after you safely get them there you cut their salaries to $1,000 per month with some babble about "prevailing wages". They will still be able to live an order of magnitude above everyone else there, but they won't be able to afford the cost to quit and come back to the US. Since they can't make that kind of money elsewhere they'll be locked in with PCGS, an employee who can't "afford" to quit.

Of course even if PCGS passed the savings on in lower rates it still won't help the collectors, the cost to ship your coins to PCGS-India would be horrendous. image

Of course this is in jest, but if it was even remotely true I would dump all of my slabs SOOOOO fast that they would be TOO hot to touch.

They could outsource them to Japan if DH had a yen to.

Condor 101 Has the nail and has not only hit it on the head its counter sunk!

Outsourcing is a good thing. I creates a great margin for the company. You simply move the US operation to Bangalore (Have you been there?, I have) The economy of scale is roughly the same. Plus you could get scads of IP that could cull the SAE, and garbage BBs out before they got to the senior graders.

This is really a good idea. I think someone should propose this to DH in the Q&A forum. Im serious, I have my cobra repellant.
