When selling to a dealer you don't know at a large show...

Do you get and check out references before accepting a check?
Or do you accept cash only?
Other?

  • What I do many times (since I'm selling to buy something else) is ask the dealer to leave the name blank so you can use his check for purchases and write the other dealers name in. If I didn't want to buy and it was a large amout I would ask other dealers I know if they know him if under a $1000 I think I would take it.

There was a dealer here in Georgia writing bad checks. He had always been very honest. He wound up working for PCI.

    Barry,

I know for us at any show we do not like to carry large amounts of cash. The coins are insured
if something were to happen but the cash is not. I would suggest you ask for references when
selling and taking a check of any amount. As a dealer all you have is your reputation......and the
industry, being as small as it is, word travels fast.imageimage

    Good luck !!
