Love those original circ. Morgans! (pictures)

BigAlBigAl Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭

A by-product of my search for an original circ 89-cc was a growing facination with original circ morgans. About 3 weeks ago this curiosity boiled over, and ever since I've been on a circulated Morgan bender.

It's refreshing being able to buy 3-5 coins (in one sitting!) and for way less than 1/2 of the money normally spent on a single unc. Not to mention not having to worry whether the fields are reflective enough to make PL! It pure fun with none of the regular pressures...

Here are some recent buys--the first 3 of "The Dirty Dozen"

Hmmm... those all look like problem free coins. I am still hunting for a 96-S in 63, and they are not easy to come by, even though they are reasonable considering their scarcity.

I agree....problem free morgans can look good in circ condition.
Those you show do look good. Congrats

I think the trick is finding them problem free.

I like the first one btw image

For me...if I ever plan to fill in my 93 and 95 holes, circ is the way I will likely need to go (as well as many of my other holes, but I may be able to get away with some AU examples)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

they're a little darker in hand---my photography skills and camera both suck.

Shopping for a 96-s in 63 sounds like pain...good luck on that one. image

Yes, it is a pain, they are seldom offered. I'm also looking for the brother to the 96-S, the 1904-S in 63 as well. Not an easy task, but eventually I'll come up with them.

Ahhh the 04-s. funny you should mention it, just picked one up today along with her sister pictured above. I'll post a pic in a minute.....

I just went over what I have. The lowest grade I have is AU-55. That will definitely change when I get around to the 89-CC and 93-S.

shallow scrape above and to left of ear, small scrape on bottom leaf--overall not to shabby for a circ.

Not at all, looks pretty decent for a circulated example. And you won't be going to the poor house like me after buying the 96-S and 04-S in MS.

Held a raw 93-s yesteday for the first time ever at the coin shop....a totally original piece with awesome patina. Incredible coin! Refreshing to see such a revered coin unmolested. A bargain for the price....but unfortunately off my radar screen.

  • SD you inspired me...I started my date set ( Ialready have the 95 thanks to Sarasota Frank)
One of the Chula Vista Coin Club members brought an almost complete circ set in 2 dansco albums to our last meeting. Has his eye on my F-12 93-S (no way)...it was a SWEET looking set...
  • PJ,

Excellent! I probably paid too much for my soon to arrive '95-S. It's in a ANACS attributed holder (VAM 4) and looks like a nice VG-8 based on the scan. I'll post it when I get it. I may go to your Chula Vista club meeting just to see that Morgan set...and yours of course.

Can you post a pic of your 93-S?

That 93-S looks pretty good. I saw a PCGS F-12 go for $3300 on eBay the other day.

Chula Vista? Sounds like you are in San Diego. My dad tells me it was pretty hot there yesterday.

Some days I wish I was back there. Right now it is 38 with rain here.
  • Actually a little cooler today..at least over here in Coronado...

    I got that 93-S about 6 months ago for $1500 from...bluemooncoins image

The price on those have gone wild lately.

Coronado? No wonder you can afford nice 93-S Morgans! Did they ever remove the one-way toll from the bridge?
  • I don't live in Coronado, mind you...I'm a South Bay rat...doing my time at North Island....and yes the toll is gone.

Well I'm glad they finally got rid of it.

How are shops there now? Is Clairemont Coin still around? I used to pick up some nice coins from that shop.
