They finally sent out my Elk medal.
Now, I just wait for my 3 ducks (maybe I should name them.....Huey, Dewie and Louie image )
(Only older people will probably get that reference).

What, they don't show Donald Duck on TV anymore?

I remember the pep boys things, but only because I was stationed back east and saw some commercials for them.

No, I haven't seen donald duck cartoons in a long time (and with a 2 year old, I am starting to see a lot of cartoons....thankfully, he likes the scooby doo reruns image )

I don't know about that Lucy.
I collected comic books when I was younger (20+ years ago for many of them) but they aren't as prolific as they once were.
You used to be able to get them at most drugstores and grocery stores. Now, some bookshops don't have them and many other stores don't either.

They were great for me in reading and increasing my very young vocabulary (I started reading them around 5 years old) but the cost these days.....what is it? Around $2 per? Not many kids are going to get many comics at that price i don't think image

I will let my kid read my old ones and spend the new money on coins for him image

btw......how much would a nice looking set of frankies in an album cost? About MS63 or so (FBL not mandatory).
And, where would one go about getting a set from? Many years of searching, or who would be a reputable person?

I would like to get my boy complete sets of moderns while I can, and while they are affordable, as I think by the time he gets old enough to do this on his own, I want him focusing on upgrading and learning rather than piecing together a potentially expensive set that could discourage him or bankrupt me image

  • Memory loss is the first sign of getting old. I forgot what the second is...
and who the heck is Donald Duck? Wasn't he in the Clinton administration?
Wait, no, that was LBJ, or maybe.....

Edited to add: Now I remember.. Donald wasn't all he was quacked up to be, so I voted for Mickey Mouse!

I would buy a album, and help him fill it...... many mint state raw frankies can be had very in-expensive.......
Teach him the thrill of the hunt, and the fun of putting each coin into the album....

If you do this, pm me your addy, I have some nice raw brilliant Frankies that I'll send to get you cats started.

  • I just got my Elk last week.

I think the mint is figuring out it has a way to go with mass laser engraving technology before they do something like this again.

Got mine yesterday. Gee...only took months...I hope the duck medals arrive soon.
Rufus T. Firefly: How would you like a job in the mint?

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?

  • A nice bu set of Franklins would cost between $400 to $500. If it were me I would take Lucy's excellent advice. Think of the quality time you would spend with your boy looking for coins.
  • I remember watching old Disney cartoons when I was a little tyke, and the Bugs Bunny and Tweety show too... that had all the great classic bugs cartoons.
