A question for hockey people

What effect (if any) do you think Bertuzzi's hit on Moore will have on his cards? The retaliatory hit was cowardly, but will all the attention cause people to buy his cards or boycott them? Or will it depend on his suspension time? I'm just curious to see what people think.

Well, it certainly can't help. But, if you're sitting on a bunch of Bertuzzi's right now I wouldn't worry too much, since this type of cheap shot is entirely in line with Bertuzzi's character. If Joe Thornton or Ron Francis had done this I'd be really concerned. But Bertuzzi's been a punk since he came into the league, which means that this particular incident, while dastardly, is not too surprising.

BTW, I don't think anyone should be buying Bertuzzi cards, even if this whole thing hadn't happened. He's a whiner, which doesn't doesn't do much for the collectibility of most NHLers, and he has a habit of dogging it in the playoffs. Typically, an NHL players cards don't begin to get any buzz until they've established himself as a clutch performer in the playoffs (i.e., Yzerman, Roy, etc.). I don't think you have to worry about Bertuzzi ever elevating his game in April, so I'd stay away from his cards.

I don't think it can be good for them - especially if he gets slapped with a McSorley-like suspension. From what I've read on different message boards and media outlets, there seems to be almost universal condemnation of Bertuzzi's actions.

His cards weren't worth anything in the first place! image

I haven't had my ear to the rail, but it's nice to see that the NHL community is rallying around Moore. Bertuzzi always reminds me of Arnott, in the sense that neither of them have any idea what to do with their size. I'm continually astounded by the fact that a man with Bertuzzi's size and talent can't find it in himself to show up in April. You'd think Naslund-- who has some class-- would have sat him down by now and showed him some game tapes of Sundin; a guy whose game looked suspicously like Bertuzzi's before he sacked up and learned how it's done in the playoffs.

I've seen the replay over and over, and I can't remember ever seeing anything quite like this. The only thing that comes close (aside from McSorley/Brashear, but that was done with a stick) is that classic hit that Domi put on Samuellson. Although even that doesn't rank up there with this one, since Samuellson was so despicable.

That Canuck team is filled with frauds, which explains why Bertuzzi fits in so well up there. Here's hoping the Vancouver police nut up and do to him what they did to McSorley.
  • Thanks guys for the info, the only stuff I know about hockey is from Sports Center and Xbox. I was just curious cuz this was a pretty nasty hit.

I'd have to agree with you after reading some of the quotes from Bertuzzi's teammates.

Trevor Linden: "If most people knew how upset Todd was by the result of what happened they would have a different view on things."

No, Trevor, I'd still think he's a piece of s#!t scumbag.

Markus Naslund: “He tried to do something he thought was right for his team, to challenge someone. He wanted to make a point that you don't go out and hit our players.”

Challenge someone?!? Challenge someone?!? (Said in my best Jim Mora "Playoffs?!?" voice.) I'm not sure that delivering a sucker punch to the head during game play then slamming the guy to the ice constitutes a fair challenge.

Anyway, even one of the hockey writers for the Vancouver Sun seems to be calling for a lengthy suspension for Bertuzzi.

I feel the suspension should be no shorter than the length of time Moore is out. If Moore never plays again then neither should Bertruzzi. If Moore is out 2 years the minimum for Bertruzzi should be at least 2 years and a day. They need to put an end to this type of behavior.
