1959 BB Seems On Fire

I just looked at the 1959 BB basic set page to see if my updates had been registered, and found it interesting to see that 11 of the first 13 sets have red flags beside them. I'm sticking with 8's and after looking at this page I understand a little better why they are so competitive on eBay right now (I don't chase 9's, but they are probably on fire too).

    Steve....

You are absolutely right. We all are very active in building our sets right now. I certainly have seen that in the ebay prices too. Notice that #9 through #14 are all bunched pretty close together. You have come a very long way in a short time. You bought some nice ones from me not long ago. Just curious, why are you hiding your set? I enjoy looking to see what everyone is adding and I certainly don't mind when other collectors check me out.

1959 Topps BB has to be my all-time favorite.

By the way, John McLaren, who is #1, is a great guy to deal with. I also don't think that any of us will ever catch him. His set must be an absolute gem!!

I also plan to add more pictures very soon. I think that adding really nice scans of key cards really adds a nice element to the registry sets. I know that I really enjoy looking at scans of others cards in other sets.

Related to the 1959's being on fire right now, I have noticed a new bidder just recently that is putting in very strong bids on many PSA 8 1959 Topps BB. His ebay id is deliaag and he just registered with ebay on 2/20/04. He is bidding high on many cards coming up for auction. Does anyone know who he is? I wonder if he will be joining the set registry with his new acquisitions.

1959 Topps BB is a great year and the very best of luck to all out there who are working on this magnificent set.

My set is closed because I don't always wish to tip my hand on what I need to others on eBay right now. Having been through this before, it is my experience that some eBay trolls will bid up certain "in demand" cards that they really don't want for themselves just to make life harder for set builders. Of course this occasionally boomerangs, as I recently enjoyed a good laugh at someone who (I can only suspect) thought they figured out my bidding practices only to end up with a $536 1959 common (my bid was actually $53.51). I mean, why give up state secrets? I have been on the other end of the equation however, as my last few 1972 cards came from folks seeing my set and helping me out with the last dozen cards. When I have 200+ to go however, that's a different story than needing a dozen cards because the downside of being bid up on 200 cards is much worse than on a dozen.

I think however, that I have proven to many in this audience that I am good for significant deals when the circumstances are right.

Begging your pardon if this is a very FAQ , but I have very few 1959's.

The Norm Cash card, for example, has always looked more like a painting
than a photograph. Is this something Topps had to do that year in some cases?

1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards
