1988 Emmitt Smith Pre-Rookie PSA graded - which one is OK?

I almost purchased a graded Emmitt pre-rookie last night. The cards were produced by Burger King in 1988 and show Emmitt in a Gator uniform. Since I hate the Cowboys but am a huge Gator fan, this card was particularly interesting.

I noticed today that one of the 2 graded Emmitts currently on ebay doesn't have the Burger King logo on it. Interested/concerned, I did some research and found an article that indicates that it is counterfeit. Obviously, if true, this card should be avoided.

Can anybody confirm/deny the Beckett story? Any other info on this card?

So the questions begin. It apears there is NO trademark on ANY of them much less the ones with the logo. So why would PSA grade them? Or did someone "forge" a PSA case?

the "no Burger King logo" cards are counterfeits. very surprising PSA would grade them

It's hard to tell from the scans if the ones with logo have the trademark logos or not, but there's defintely something wrong with the second auction. I won't jump on PSA here - the edges of the slab are not viewable in the scan and it might have been resealed. If they really did slab it, they need to do their homework because that is one of the obvious counterfeits out there.

the one's missing the burger king logo are fakes. i can't look at ebay at work....but i'd like to buy the fake one if the price is right. i kicked myself a couple months ago by not buying a fake one holdered by SCD for reference purposes. these cards used to sell at a huge premium 6 months ago. unfortunately some guy vintage auctions/zardoz????? not sure which, must have dumped a 100 or so in the psa 9/10 range....prices have fallen drastically since.

I've been collecting Gator football cards for a long time - the no logo cards are definitely fakes.

Nice to see another Gator on here. Let me know if you need anything, I've got a ton of doubles.

I'm in the middle of a quest to obtain the autograph of every Gator who has played in the NFL. 113 out of 188 so far!
