Another Ugly PSA 9? ...

... Maybe it's just a really bad scan (I don't think so), but I don't think I'll be bidding on it. You would think that a big time dealer like Kruk Cards could put a little more effort into their listing. They lost one bid for sure!

Oh, by the way, here's my nicely centered PSA 8 with razor sharp corners:

JEB, that is an awful scan...especially from Kruk cards. But, I don't think the card is that bad. Having said that, your 8 seems like its equal to me.

I can't understand why any dealer would use a digital pic instead of a scan...it makes no sense at all.

I think that the '68 AS's can be a little tough to call on centering when they look like this one. I suppose the L border should start at the end of the "Sporting News" banner...so this one appears awfully tight for 60/40 (or even 65/35).

Another case of technical grade -vs- visual appeal. BTW, JEB nice card.

I have about 1,000 1968 psa 8/9 in my possession. I must have a few dozen (or more) 8's that are so much better than their 9's. I know the mantra is "buy the card, not the holder," but the overwhleming majority of sliders I have were graded long ago with the silver decal on the flip. The question is, is it worth the $6+ to break out and resubmit?

  • What bugs me is a $250 card and they have a tiny picture. Too cheap to pay 75 cents to supersize unless...are they trying to hide something??? Hmmmmmmmmm.........

Not sure about that...the big blurry picture below the auction is pretty large.

A side-note to ejguru's observation regarding the older graded cards witht the silver logo on the back. I've noticed that if you have these mixed in with other more recently graded cards, that you can pick them out of the stack because they have a clearer appearance.

At first I thought they had been tampered with, but then I realized they were all from the older holders and perhaps some change had been made.

Maybe their scanner is down. This brings up my biggest pet-peeve about sellers - why have $$$ or $$$$ worth of cards with such skimpy or ugly scans, photos, etc.? I look at that as money lost.

But it can have it's benefits. I bought a 78 set awhile back with the most horrid, blurry digital pic of the Murray rookie in a binder. Seeing through the haze, I copied and spend some time analyzing the pic with a photo editor as I saw some potential. I ended up buying the set for $100. The result was a very high end, damn-near-dead-centered PSA 8.

It is hard to believe someone as 'big' as Kruk cards cannot offer any better scans than they do. They sell a huge amount of cards on e-bay. You would think they could have someone show them how to scan cards if they do not know how.
