came across an 1827 large cent (nice original coin in Fine condition) that was clipped at the top, was wondering if this is a fairly common occurrence....or if something like this would command any premium, and if so how much?
thanks in advance for any help,
Al

We're also assuming this is a Mint error and not damage. A couple of things you can check - the rim of the coin should taper toward the clip on either side, almost as if the clip was a drain and the metal was pouring down it. Depending on the amount of wear and the size of the clip, there rim directly opposite could look slightly thin or weak. If you have a decent picture I can tell you with about 95% certainty what you have.
