For those who don't know me, I am the author and owner of www.coppercoins.com have been a Lincoln cent specialist for over 20 years now. I am nearing completion of my first book on the series, and will be sending it to press within the next couple of weeks.
The book is a chronological year-by-year account of the entire Lincoln cent series and what to look for while going through rolls or bags of cents. It gives general information about overall quality of the coins in the different years, and shows a few of the lesser commonly known die varieties and typical die varieties for the issue. It also will show common non-collectible problems found on cents, and goes into depth with the date size changes and other varieties found in the series. This book is not intended to be a complete attribution guide to the Lincoln cent, it is rather a companion to the attribution guide I will be releasing during the summer, and is a good book to read before going through your extra Lincoln cents.
Since the book is not yet finished, the exact number of pages the book will contain is not known. It will be between 175 and 225 pages and will be spiral bound in 5.5 x 8.5 format. Only 500 copies of the book will be printed in the first printing.
The cover price of the book is $15.95 plus $4 shipping, but through this pre-press offer I am paying for the shipping, so your final price is only the cover price.
Preorder your copy today by sending $15.95 through Paypal to my email address (cd@coppercoins.com) or send check or money order for $15.95 to:
C. D. Daughtrey
P.O. Box 6103
Springfield, MO 65801
A confirmation of your order will be sent, and you will be notified when your copy is shipped (during the last week of April).
A photo of the cover of the book as well as excerpts from the book will be posted here as they become available to give you a better idea of what's inside. Thank you for your support!

It is still on-time, due for release just after tax day. Only one thing has changed dramatically - the book has grown in size! It is now over 225 pages, working toward 250 pages and possibly more. Because of the underestimation of the number of pages (thus the cost of producing the book) the cover price has risen from $15.95 to $17.95 - BUT!! - if you get a pre-order in either online or postmarked by the end of the day April first, you still get the exact same offer I started here a couple of weeks ago. $15.95, and I pay the shipping. After April first, the price goes up to $17.95 and you cover the $4 packing and shipping.
I am really pleased with the outcome of the book so far, and I am a very critical person of my own work. I think the book is well worth the price, even the full price of $17.95 - I would have paid that for it easily. All of the people - ALL of them - that I have discussed the book with in detail think it's a great idea and that it will be a hit. All of them also told me that my cover price, even at $17.95, is too cheap.
I don't want to push this onto people who don't really want it...if you are skeptical, listen to the reviews after the book comes out before you buy it - no problem. If you're not a Lincoln cent person but do get the occasional mixed bag in a deal, you really should consider this book...I wouldn't have spent the time to write it (or this post) if I didn't really believe in it and what I am doing here. It will help anyone who is unfamiliar with the series and is either getting started or doesn't want to have to learn everything there is to know about it, but wants something to quickly refer to. Full detail shots of worthless machine doubling, hundreds of doubled dies and mintmark varieties, detailed shots and analysis of the different changes in the series, detailed photos of the different mintmark styles used - it's all there!
This will be my last update before the book is published. If you haven't decided now, no amount of talking will make that happen.

It'll be on the shelf beside Conder101's and Q. David Bower's!
A small story about the book - and an update on its progress:
When I started this book I decided to write a 150-200 page book on the series, going through it year for year telling of some of the minor stuff that many don't bother to mention - mainly the stuff that had been reported to me as valuable but weren't...machine doubling, master die doubling, common problems experienced in different given years of the series.
Well, I did that - and more. As the book progressed, I went through thinking about the whole process of collecting Lincolns and decided a simple year-by-year book wasn't quite enough...so I added a 25 page grading guide, a glossary of terms for the beginners, and started stuffing the book full of photos I hadn't necessarily planned from the beginning. It turned out to be more than 250 pages!
In the midst of things I had to figure out how I was going to put this on paper. I went to the local printing presses and all of them seemed to have their heads buried in the sand. None of them could come up with the quality I was looking for, so I decided to print the book myself. I bought a top-notch HP laser printer, five cases of Hammermill 28 pound color laser paper, and went to work. That's right, each and every copy of the book is printed using a 1200 DPI laser printer from the original file containing well over 500 photos that are 250DPI grayscale digital images. In essence, the decisions I made regarding how this reaches you have been the best I could have come up with. The quality of the final product is mind-boggling. The prints look better than the files I created in writing the book using Adobe InDesign CS. Without question the photos in this book are higher quality than any Lincoln cent book or die variety manual in the marketplace. My wife was stunned, and she rarely is. I showed her side by side comparison between my microphotos as printed in the book and some of those published by others, and she said there was no comparison. Although it takes 45 minutes per copy to print, it's well worth the wait.
Anyhow, back to the subject: The book is written through the wheats; I am still working on the memorials. There are currently 198 pages and I haven't covered the 1959-2004 era yet! Never fear, the book will be out as planned - on the 25th of April or before. Every one of them will be hand numbered, and as requested, many of them will be personalized. I can guarantee what I put out isn't lacking in quality. If it was, I wouldn't bother.
Have fun collecting, and remember to order by the end of the day on April 1st. As of April 2nd, the price goes up $2 per copy to help cover the cost of the unplanned additional 50 pages that everyone will get.

Another treat is in store for those who order one of the first 200 copies...all of the first 200 copies of the book are laser printed and hand collated before binding. Every single page of every single copy is hand inspected!! The remaining 300 copies will be press printed. The difference will be in the smoothness of the paper and the output quality of the photos, which are best using the laser printer. The expenses of continuing production on a laser printer are too high, so the remainder of the printing will be done on a press...300 first printing books, all hand signed, then 1,000 second printing books, unsigned.
From the way things look, I may need a third printing as well, before the end of the year. These books will be identical to the second printing except for the notation that they are third printing. I believe the copy run on that will be 2,000 if they are needed. After that, I doubt there will ever be any more.
