Those wacky HSN guys...an observation

They were on this weekend and were selling 1 Ounce ICG Proof 70 Platinum Eagles for $3,000 per. They sold 75 of them in approximately 45 minutes.

The Platinum Spot is $892 dollars right now.

Sorry but I could not help posting about it. It's just unbelievable to watch what they do on these shows...and perhaps more unbelievable that they sold them all so fast.

I must be in the wrong business...image Maybe I did something terrible in a previous life...image

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?

Is that the show with the hick carnival barker yelling about what an idiot he is for selling so cheaply?

Did they really sell that many or is that their claim to try and entice others to buy? I've often wondered about that.

Yeah, they went on and on about the rarity of an MS "70" grade ("It's perfect...can't get better!"...blah, blah) coin and that they make Platinum Eagles in very low numbers (15,000, etc.).

He said they sold out, and they only had about 75 of them. You guys did the math. My eyes were bulging...image

Never seen anything like it, even on HSN. Can't imagine what they'll do with Proof Platinum.

They lead you to believe the show is live but it's not! It's all pre-recorded & hyped up. I found this out one day when it used to
run simultaneously on 3 channels in my area and one of them screwed up by playing their broadcast 1/2 hour behind the other
two! It's all a big show.

Edit: This also explains why they're so perky & excited about coins at 4:AM.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • That guy on HSN is worse than Robert Chambers of the Coin Vault. I know, I know, Chambers is terrible, but the guy on HSN, in fact both of them, you can tell they are lieing before they even say anything.image

The guys on HSN- the "numismatist is "Mike" something...with the fake smile and capped teeth...I thought they were live because they were talking about it being the weekend and being in March.

The show I was watching was like 7-9 on Saturday evening here in the East. And then they said they would be back later that night. The same guy "Mike" also does a pre-recorded one you see all the time where he hawks the 1999-2001 State Quarters in P & D Mints and Gold and Platinum layered. You can hardly see his face in that one (which is definitely recorded) but you definitely know it's him...

Boy...a lot of folks must be buying coins this way...
