Grading error coins........

I have a question about coins that were graded by PCGS that might be error coins, but were not mark on the holder as an error coin. I purchased two coins that are graded PCGS on Ebay and I was surprised to see that they are errors, one is a 1883 No Cents that has die cracks (between one and four o'clock and above the 83) and the other is a 2004 Silver Eagle that is a double die on the obverse. Does PCGS notice errors when they are grading regular submissions? Can I resubmit these coins to PCGS and have them rechecked?

I have discussed this subject with a couple of dealers and they say it's a money thing. That on regular submission, PCGS will only grade a coin even if it has errors. That you would have to send it back and pay the $30 for the error submission. Is this true?

Yes, that is true. That is mechanical doubling on the Eagle. Neither error warrants a $30.00, plus shipping, grading fee. Save your money and buy more coins. My opinion only.
  • Yes, I agree with the dealers and think it's a money thing. I received coin last Christmas that was graded by PCGS MS64 and it was an error, but not marked or graded as one. I broke it out of the holder and send it back to PCGS error submission, it came back as an error and it graded even higher MS67 Mint Error-Doubled Die Reverse.....
