1958 Double die varieties

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,765 ✭✭✭✭✭
Trying to find out if any DDO varietries exsist for the 1958 Lincoln Cent. I know its NOT the rare (2 known) full on DDO as its spread is no where near that great. Any sources would be greatly apprecaited.

  • How About this one??

    BU 1958/7-D/D 1c OBV/REV MULTI-ERROR Nice! NR
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a GEM RED BU MULTIPLE ERROR DDO/RPM coin -- see scan and read itemized description below. Coin contains several different types of errors, including clash-like impressions, extra metal, extra relief elements, etc. Some of the errors show up lightly on scan and some do not, but they are all there -- scan provided primarily to give idea of condition.
Coin is also an RPM (Repunched Mint-Mark) with nice west spread, upper and lower split serifs. This coin exhibits numerous reverse die polish marks and is also the 58/7-D Overdate Doubled-Die Obverse, though not quite as strong as normal BREEN #2225 (CONECA MH#1-O-VII), is RED BU from original Fed-wrapped bank roll and will grade MS-60 or better. Very Nice MULTI-ERROR, OVERDATE, DDO, RPM, VARIETY Combo

There are a number of different doubled die obverses to be found on 1958 cents, most of which are currently not listed on coppercoins.com, but will be in the near future. The bad news is that 1958 is one of the prolific years of machine doubling as well. Quite a number of them are pretty nice and can easily fool a novice.

Whatever that is that Nemesis listed there is what was at one time listed as a 1958/7 "overdate," but these are not so. They were disproven as overdates a number of years ago, but one cannot go back and change bound books that are already printed with the erroneous information.
