Truely American in design and meaning would have to be the buffalo nickel.

The problem with the Buffalo is I view it as more of a general American design and not so much the USA. I mean it doesn't inspire patriotism or anything. Maybe just the plight of the Indians and Buffalos.. I guess it's the only well designed politically correct coin we've had. Now the Standing Liberty on the other hand.. That's inspiration! That's the good ole' USA. Makes me want to head west, build a railroad, start a company, wave the flag, conquer a small nation, maybe Canada.. . So my vote's for the half.
