2004 nickels are on sale at the U.S. mint.

Anyone order any yet or get any?
I just placed an order for the two roll set and a bag each of D and P, 500 coins.

I ordered some but have not rcvd them yet. Apparently te rolls are better than the bags for the "D" mints.
  • Why do you buy these? Errors, high grade MS, put 'em away for years, what? I've never bought quantity from the mint so I guess I'm curious as to the motivation.

The reason I bought the bags was because I could afford them.
Money has been tight for a while so I haven't made any purchases.
This should keep me busy and sedated for a while.
Who knows, with the quality control at the mint I might get lucky.

I've never bought mint bags, but occasionally I buy rolls in bunches. Some I put away; I don't even open the cardboard box the rolls come in from the Mint, so that if I decide to sell in the future, a collector can be assured he's purchasing virgin Mint rolls. Sometimes feel like I'm doing my part for the hobby when I put them away, esp. with all the bogus "mint" or "bank wrapped" rolls floating around. The remainder, I'll go through those gradually, putting aside the best.

Actually, I find it relaxing to go through a couple rolls every once in a while -- coin rolls, that is. There's no pressure involved -- if you find a nice coin, you don't have to worry about haggling with a dealer or getting ready to snipe -- it's already yours, straight from the Mint. It's an odd kind of satisfaction, I guess.

  • I too like to go through a roll or two from time to time. But my rolls are all Lincoln wheats and I seem to have about 30-50 around all the time. When the number gets below 30 or so, I buy some more.

I just can't see buying bags of moderns unless like Sequiter says, you're preserving them for future generations/hobbyists.

I didn't order any from the mint, but I did get ten rolls from my contact at the FRB. I've been spending them all week.
  • I ordered 3 roll sets.

I haven't received mine yet, but another board member posted this:

You have a Federal Reserve Bank contact who can get you coins that haven't been officially released to the public yet?

Have the new nickels not yet been officially released? Usually she gets them same-day, so not before the official release, but within minutes afterward.

They are for sale at the mint but the official release date for circulation isn't until the 14th at the three flags festival in St Louis.

At work, we called the downtown vault to see if we will be able to get boxes of the new nickels, like we can for the state quarters. We were told that they would not be available to order that way. image

I was notified via email on Friday that my 2004 P&D bags were shipped. I ordered them last Wednesday. Pretty quick service!! Can't wait to get them. My local dealer was told by the mint that the rolls are still 2-3 weeks away from being shipped. So I am selling him mine.....after I check them out of course. image

Indeed? Well, then I guess the answer to your previous question was "Yes".
