In general, what coins exhibit the greatest

In general, what coins exhibit the greatest difference in quality for the same grade, between PCGS and other third party grading companies?

I would nominate VF to AU pre-turban bust halfs (1801-1807) as one such group of coins.

What other ones typically show a significant difference?

I can only comment on my series but PCGS is pretty Damn tight on Barber halves, where NGC and ANACS are off and overgrade by about 1/2 a grade fairly consistently. ANACS, that does net grades as an example, will take a VF30 coin, call it an XF40, net grade VF20. So now you get a cleaned coin net graded what its technical grade already is! The worst is for AU coins because there is a big price difference from XF and often the coin really is XF.

I usually won't buy NGC or ANACS Barbers sight unseen for that reason.

I agree with tyler on the Barber, especially quarters and halves. I would also add Walkers and SLQ's
  • Well, I think NGC is a little looser on the flowing hair and draped bust. I think PCGS and ANACS are both on the tighter side on these...
