Did the 1862 UK Penny use two different date styles?

Is it my imagination, or are these two different date styles?
If so, is one worth more than the other?
Thanks,
Glenn

You get a lot of stuff like that around the early 1860's. The 1861 dates are all over the shop and to a lesser extent the 1860 + 1862. The real thing to look out for on the 1862 Penny is the date struck with halfpenny size numerals.... Then you can go to Pluto.

  • My Krause mentions a small date variety taken from a 1/2d die worth about 3-6 times more than the normal one. Also mentioned, varieties with L.C. Wyon on the queen's shoulder and an 1862/1662 overdate.

A 1/2d numeral penny went for £2,250 on Ebay about a year ago. It was definitely the finest known. GVF with sticky stuff on the obverse. Found in a collectors shop in Walsall, West Midlands.

EDIT TO ADD: I forgot about the overdate.... Ex Rare Also.

  • Thanks Lloyd & Brad.
I remembered something about the date of the 1862 and didn't want to list a coin worth a lot of money without knowing it.
