How does one go about removing a wrinkle on a trading card? Pressing? Soaking?

    i would not suggest soaking
maybe put it thru an old washing machine u no the type with the wringer??
    Good for you.
  • As far as I'm concerned, a card that has a wrinkle, has a wrinkle. Whatever you do, you'd better be darn good at it or you'll ruin it. But what do I know. Just my opinion. Good luck.

It looks like some people may have found a method to remove wrinkles without ruining the card.

    no more wrinkle thread

If what these people are saying is true, someone turned a $3000 card into a $150000 card. Not bad.

I recollect that the topic of card restoration was extensively discussed in SCD many years ago - they even allowed some advertising to include the removal of wax, stains etc. - even a discussion of wrinkles. As we know, although in other areas of ephemera, restoration can enhance value (movie posters, comics e.g.); not so in cards. This whole thing just quietly went away. I have found someone who advertises they will restore baseball cards - I have emailed them a question with regard to a surface wrinkle which I actually have on the reverse of a 66T Mantle.
    Link:
They don't provide a lot of information but do list baseball cards as part of their repertoire.

maybe i am mistaking but are we talking about card doctoring?

isn't this the scourge of our hobby, or is it only if you get caught doing it, that it is considered unscrupulous?

if the wrinkle is removed (card doctored) and no one notices does that mean it was never there?

Agreed - I only checked into it because of a question asked - strictly investigative knowledge - I think Koby was curious if it is going on and so am I - the only way to even get a handle on something is to check it out or ask someone who has had first hand experience.

thanks, i was just wondering. card doctoring is a scary prospect, in a worst case scenerio it could lead to the collapse of the graded card market. there is no best case because it's all bad. removing a wrinkle is serious , i think i can vaguely recall the article you mentioned. if i recall correctly something was said about using a stocking to remove wax from the surface of a card?

koby, i just got done reading the stuff where you provided a link and I'm not sure its appropriate for this forum. A few of the posts on that thread, especially the last one is really anti-PSA. Sure makes PSA look bad. Especially the stuff about the old PSA grades. Are they really that inaccurate? I hope not.

I have been reading the posts over there as well, and as far as i am concerned I take all that with a grain of salt. I buy cards for the pleasure of it, not for any resale agenda. Yes I would hope that what I buy is authentic and properly graded, however I have 2 eyes and can always tell if it is. Now do not get me wrong I am not out buying mayos etc cuz they are not what I like anyway. all this psa bashing and sgc is better etc is the reason I closed up my shop 11 yrs ago and stopped collecting for a while. I see nothing has changed their are still those in the hobby willing to do anything to make a buck. Just as their is in any endevour (spelling) you get out of it what you put in. I find all the trashing going on in both boards tobe quite amuzing and childish btw. Have a great day!
    Good for you.
