Have you picked up any interesting coins lately?

I recently bought some nice Canadian coins, some prooflikes and other random moderns. For some reason, I like the quality of Canadian coins. Also, some have nice toning on them.

What have you found recently?

A nicely toned 1928 (George V) commemorative 45 piastres from Cyprus in PCGS MS64. The only crown ever minted for British Cyprus has become scarce in nice high grades with original surfaces. I've been hesitating for quite some time for its very rare proof version (550 mintage), but finally decided that it wasn't worth it.

I just received my first french essai coin-this one from Civitas- an 1848 10 centimes white metal pattern NGC MS62-totally shocked when I received it to see it was entombed-guess I wasn't paying attention...

This series of 1848 10 Centimes derived from a contest held which included 41 different artist/engravers-this particular one by Tournier.

JamminJ, nice thaler. You don't find many of that variety in that nice condition.

Just a bit of wear on the high point but otherwise very pleasing. It's in an NGC AU58 holder, accurately graded in my opinion.

I had the 1775 Counterfeit Halfpenny from Blackhawk (RePosted here for those who missed it 1st Time)
    imageimage

And another 1757 counterfeit from Rendel Ingram - No 1/2d's were struck for 1757

    imageimage

And a 1686 James II Half Guinea
    imageimage

And an Extremely Rare and nicely toned 1821 BBITANNIAR 6d
    imageimage

And an interesting and pretty high quality (for issue) 1691 Limerick Halfpenny
    imageimage

And the 1927 proof set in the sig line.... Unfortunately, being a peasant-like creature, I must sell my soul as well as my coins.....

    Colin, luscious coin.

Lloyd, same to you!!! I didn't know the 1775 error halfpenny was counterfeit. I take it the half guinea is also fake. So you can save the embarassment that must entail, by sending it directly to me.

Nice Limerick copper too. Have you kissed the Blarney Stone lately?

Talking about the Blarney Stone, I sold a coin to a guy the other day who OWNS Mallow Castle. £8.50 plus postage. I can't give his name or user id here because it's not the done thing but his family are from Washington DC and bought the joint in 1984.

I still haven't got off my knees, begging for free holidays. They charge Euro 16-18K per week for a party of 8

Back to the point, the Stone is around the corner from here (I believe?)

Well, like Lloyd I can't keep them; at least until I sell them to some other appreciative collectors, but I'm quite fond of this 1908 Swiss 1 franc. There are so few Swiss silvers of this quality and finding one is delightful.

  • I haven't. I have been saving up to go visit my son this coming week, and I MUST get back at the family room remodeling project now that the piono is moved out of the way. It sucks, but such is life. I will be attending a coin show later in the month however.

Lloyd, for this kind of money you can rent a nice sailing boat (40+ ft , 2-3 yrs old) and cruise the islands of the Aegean for two weeks. I'll even volunteer to be the skipper (no cooking though) image
