Top 10

After my latest update, I should be top 10 in the Nolan Ryan Master Set. There's still miles to go before I'm done.

If anyone has 3 Frank Thomas graded cards, please do me a favor and submit them to the Set Registry request so that it will move up the list. I submitted 83 different Thomas' during the $5 Special. Still waiting for the grades on them but I want to add them as soon as I get them.

    Brent;

    Welcome aboard the Nolan Ryan Master Set! I'll take a look at your set and see how you're doing. I am also on the set "The Conforti Collection"...

    I have lots of extra graded Ryans for trade or sale... if you're interested, PM me!

    A Ryan Master set is quite an amazing task, probably harder than most regular annual sets. It's at 525 cards now, I wonder how many more will be added over the years. And interestingly, it doesn't go up to 1994. I thought they included cards from the year after to recap stats or whatnot.

    I've got about 900 or so Frank Thomas cards, and I thought about what they'd look like in slabs, building an awesome registry set, but to me it's not worth it. That would be something like $4500+ in grading fees. I probably spent that much in the first 5 years of building my collection, only to see it fall way far down. Now, aside from the trouble of actually finding them, the postage would cost more than all those mid-90s inserts. Besides, my favorite cards I think are unslabbable. The 1997 Leaf Game-Used cards are all as thick as Sweet Spot Auto cards are today.
    WANTED:
    2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
    2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
    Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • Thanks for the help on Ryan, I am in the early stages as you can see. As for Thomas, this is a labor of love more than a financial decision. I have spent about $200 on 3 lots of Thomas cards totaling 3800 cards. Many are dupes but a surprising number are very different. I am focusing right now on cards that appeal to my eye. I am assuming this will occupy my spare time for years to come. In the meantime, keep the advice and pluses and minuses coming. I appreciate all input.

    War Eagle,
    Brent

    PS- My favorite non-card piece is a 1988 Auburn Univ team signed baseball including The Big Hurt. One of my friends was on the team and gave it to me during a retreat.
