I cant believe I lost this card 1985 Topps PSA 10

I have bought PSA 10 Rookies for less money. A 1985 Aggressive set collector? I was floored when I lost the auction. I thought I was going to purchase the card for 18.00 and then BAM! I am suprised some one was dumber then I too over pay for the card. 1980's arent rare but in PSA 10's they can suprise you. FYI the card is a 1/1 in PSA 10 Form.

And a positive note thanks to KK and ebay dealers and own submissions ..I only have updated my master set so far. But it is looking very nice these days.........

Be patient. Another '85 Boggs is bound to show up. The first '85 Brett PSA 10 came out about this time a year ago and its hammer price surprised me ($110 if I remember correctly). I snagged the second one a couple months later for slightly more than half that amount.

    Thanks

Why is that overpaying? 2 bidders bid in the mid $60's, and 1 won it. Apparently right now that is the true market value. Who else can make the determination of its "worth".

Perhaps, but this 3rd year card as you pointed out is a 1/1. I summize if a Boggs rookie was 1/1 it also would go for quite a bit more.
You should be happy that there is a demand for Boggs. That may warrant many other submitters to add Boggs to their submissions, which means more chances for you to obtain them image ...jay

    Boggsie:

It's all relative. I would pay more than $66 for a 1985 Topps #500 Mike Schmidt PSA 10 baseball card -- and it is his 13th year card. When you have a 1/1, it is sometimes reflective of a) not many submissions or b) a rarity.

Sometimes it's a tough call. I have a whole bunch of 1985 PSA 9s -- but most of them are clearly 9s and not 10s. As the Mike Schmidt population has played out -- some cards that were formerly hard in PSA 10 no longer are -- and some have had zero increase in PSA 10 population. So sometimes it is just a balance or a calculated bet. Sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes others benefit.

    Cheers-

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • I've seen similar things happen to mid to late 80s Gwynn submissions... I'm hoping that with the recent special, more Gwynn 10s will surface...

I was just floored that I lost I thought 65.00 and it was mine. I comparred it to the Tony Gwynn PSA 10. SMR I think off hand it 35 for a 10. Boggs usualy sells for about half or so . Since it was the only PSA 10 I guessed 40 to 50 dollars. I will patiently wait for another to pop up on ebay. Hopefuly the strong price will spur other dealers to submitt.

  • I don't think that I overpaid for the 1985 Topps Boggs PSA 10, all things considered. I own the Boggs in 8 and wanted to upgrade. I wasn't going to pay $30 (right?) for the last 9 that showed up on eBay. I planned on waiting for the next 9 to come along and get it cheaper. Then a 10 appeared. Then I bid. End of story.

I guess so! I like that. Now that's what I will be saying every time I outbid someone! Thanks Wayne! image

The last 1985 Topps Tony Gwynn PSA 10 on eBay sold for $155 over a year ago. I was the underbidder. Apparently, the person that won it thought he overpaid because he emailed me after the auction with some language I'd get banned for repeating, thanking me for running up the price (which wasn't the case, my sniper sniped and I lost). I told him I'd pay him what he paid for the card but all I got was more of the same colorful language as before. Whatever.

I suppose you could call me an aggressive 1985 Topps collector. I guess I am. My reasoning is that I could wait for the "next" 10 to hit the market or I could be the first one to own the Boggs or Brett or whoever, in case I'm dead before the next one hits the market.

James, I'm sure you will get your 1985 Boggs 10 eventually. Probably for the same price or less than you paid for your 9. Good luck!

  • Eric,

That's a great name! I spent hours and hours (actually 3 seconds) coming up with my user name.image I think you did fine on the Boggs card. Good luck with your collection.

    Porkcopper4 ,

Congrats ...you got me I never saw you coming. Nice card it looks to be a very nice 10. I cant tell if you over paid. But if one of us wasnt bidding I dont think it would have Broke 20.00. I knew if I was outbid it would be by a set collector. Again Nice p/u. Weird hearing from the guy that spanked me. Sorry about the delay I responded this morning but it was added ?????
