washington commemorative half dollar (1982)

I have this in proof. How does one extricate this coin out the hard plastic shell?

I got one out without damaging the coin, though it took forever and was a royal pain in the arse.

I sent 10 to PCGS several years ago and they returned 2 saying they couldn't get them out of the holder. Some of them aren't easy to get out!

I think I gave one a sharp smack on the side with a hammer and most the face of the plastic cracked off, and the coin came out rather easily.

The other ended up taking about 30 mintues of chipping away plastic until I could finally pry the thing out. For a coin that cost me $3 I will never crack another one out.

  • Is it as hard as cracking an ICG slab?I spent like half an hour hammering a way and glass chips were flying everywhere.I'm suprised it wasn't damaged.
