Does enyone know what this is?

I won a lot on ebay with some older coins in it.
the seller did not know what it was but said it could be gold or brass.
Eny help you could give me would be great.

    A warm welcome to the boards, Mike. I'm afraid I know nothing of your coin/medal? Isn't the ship on the obverse burning? Maybe it commemorates some naval battle. Surely some expert will come forward with lots of info. Besides, there are plenty of people here who specialize in boat coins.

    Yes it does look like she could be burning. I dident know there was alot of coins with old ships on them.

    Could be related to the Battle of the Downs, 1639 between the Netherlands and Spain. Here's a link. Don't know though, too early for me...

    This looks like another jeton. Not gold, but probably brass.

    I think jester may be right about the burning.

    TERRET DVM TORRET

    I'm no latin scholar, but I think that loosely means: Frightens while burning.

    What this particular piece refers to, I don't know.

    A jeton is another (French) name for token. It could have been used as money.
