Better looking in person, but certainly not of equal technical merit to other dates in the sale. Will you be viewing these lots in person, Peaceman? I would love to hear your thoughts on a few of these coins...after the auction, of course.

Do not fall into the error of the artisan who boasts of twenty years experience in his craft while in fact he has had only one year of experience... twenty times.
I can say without a doubt that I have at least 6 MS64' that look better than that one.... Here's one... and another..... and another... and another.....lol....
Seems to me that a hit like that in the field in front of the face is an automatic start at 4..... PCGS should buy that one back.... on a different note.. I've NEVER seen a nice clean blast white 28@5 in the last 3 years....
Setting aside the futility of grading from pictures for one moment...
Both coins have excellent surface preservation. The second one my first impression is impaired luster...but looks like a probable product of the imaging technique. The first...well I'm just thinking there's got to be a reason we're only seeing the obverse.
All kidding aside; those are both very nice looking for the grade.

Can't seem to find the other..... my point is it's overgraded.... no matter WHAT it looks like... there are just too many hits...... I understand about the photo thing (surfaces/strike/etc) but physical damage to a coin is fundemental.....
Yeah, I don't collect Peace Dollars, but I have to agree with you. When you zoom in on the coin, you can see a lot of marks (hits). I'd grade it at a 63 at best.
