New Set Registry Ideas

I love vinatge cards, but I'm not that big on completing sets for lotsa reasons... but I still want to collect cards that I can register into certain types of sets... with that, I have been thinking of some unique ideas for new set requests, and I'd love some feedback. Are they viable sets? How should we constitute the cards to be included? Do we try to weight them?

3000 Hits Set
Triple Crown Winners Set
Hit for the Cycle Set
No-Hitters Set
Perfect Games Set
World Series Champions Team Cards Set

Anyone got these ideas in the works already? Any other ideas for sets? Let's hear'em!

    Hi Con40,
I just started a type set, collecting a graded card (a Detroit Tiger) from as many sets as possible. It's a cool challenge that makes you do some research.

    Jim;

The Registry has a set like that already that I registered in... the PSA Vintage Sampler Set... it's not bad! Sounds like yours is a much bigger challenge. Are you attempting all modern issues too? That could be a mind-boggling undertaking! Though it must be fun to see all those different Tiger cards!

Keith, all of the sets you mentioned sound interesting to me, some more than others. Great ideas.

    Con 40,
My idea started with just the Topps basic sets. It's now turned into a year set - can i get a card that was made from every year in the 1900's. After that, who knows!

The sets you have listed are attainable however you will need cards like Cy Young, Ty Cobb etc. A few sets that I have always done beginning in the mid 60z is an MVP set a CY YOUNG set and a Rookie of the Year set. I use the player's card of the following year, that way it shows his stats and/or mentions the award. In 1980 or their abouts i began a fireman of the yr award set too. I try to use Topps cards but have had to use Bowmans and Fleer on occasion. very rarely does a player not have a card the following yr. For Jackie Robinson I used the 49 bowman (he as you all know won in 47) Another cool aspect of sets like these are you get to see how the cards have changed over the years.
    Good for you.

4 homer games set intrigues me....that would be attainable for me i think. anyone know off hand if Gerhig did it?
    Good for you.
  • I started working on a set of cards commemorating perfect games (as opposed to a set of cards of players who've pitched them) set in raw form a while back. Thanks to there being a couple of perfect games in the last five years, this set is faced with the decision of whether to include parallel-type insert cards or not (I chose not to), but is otherwise pleasantly small and inexpensive to work on compared to many projects. I have a checklist lying around that should cover post-WWII major releases pretty well; I'll be happy to e-mail it to anyone who's interested.

One thing I know nothing about is whether there are any really old cards commemorating some of the early 1900's perfect games. Anyone know if such cards exist?

    Good for you.
  • Why not have a fill in the "Blank" inventory set. Just register the PSA cereal number to display your whole collection. The rating system will be 1 pt, and most number of PSA cards own will rank 1st and so on... You can have a button to click next to it to organize it by year, name, or type of card.

    Just a thought.

Hey! I like this idea! Not only is it a nice kind of like "the one who dies with the most toys wins" but from a practical standpoint, it could make insuring a card collection a little more efficient!

  • The "blank" registry set is the best idea I have heard in a long time! This would be great for insurance purposes if nothing else. Is someone going to ping PSA on this and see if they will add it?

Since I started this thread, I'll pick up that torch... I'm always bugging them about upgrading the Ryan sets, so they why not this one too! The blank registry really is a great idea! When my house burns down, I can just tell the insurance company to check out my collection online!
