Pretty cool coins, Colin! I like the animal designs. What's the sea creature on the obverse of the 25 Francs?
.....GOD
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
From what I can find it is a fish styled Ashantee gold weight. The Ashanti people are from Western Africa, especially around the Ghana area. Gold has been mined in western Africa for a long time.
The countermark issues of St. Croix from 1798-1813 have a similar symbol but I think it may just be a coincidence.
The animal is some sort of antelope, possibly an impala, but I think their horns curve more.
