yeah, 80/20 on all mine too...I like to have the best centered cards in my set but it looks like they are all off-centered. hmmm I did however find a Bautista #177 card without a print defect on it...might want to check that out to. It seems like there is a spot on his face.
cubfan...welcome to the club! Can you believe that back in 2001 you could of bought a box of 2001 heritage for 60 dollars and now it sells for 250??
What you pulled was a retrofractor...a parallel to the base chrome...they pull about 1:15 packs so you did well. If you tip the card against the light you will see that it is a refractor.
I hope you aren't going to make us wait pack by pack! LOL rip them all !!!!
What you have is a Retrofractor Chrome parallel. They are numbered out of 555. The regular chrome cards are numbered outta 1955. If you tilt the one you have at an angle you will notice a "rainbow" effect.
I'm not a baseball collector at all, but I did the same thing and bought a couple packs and now I'm a junkie building the set.
Today I had some extra time so I went to Target only to find about a dozen loose packs (No retail boxes at all) and the worst part, was the ends of each of the packs were torn just a bit so the packchecker/feeler could see if it had any GU product I guess. I did not buy them.
Then I went to K-mart (no 2004 product at all except for 1 box of Topps 2004.... they did have about 30 of the 2002 Topps complete sets still on sale... (for $50 bucks!)
Then I went to TWO different Walmarts..... and neither had any heritage at all!
I've got the Garret Anderson and Podres Flashback cards if you still need these. I'm not really putting a set together so I'd be willing to send you these two. Do you happen to have any football? I'd take any two random Torry Holt cards that you may have. If not, no biggie, I'll just send you the two...
Ok, that was fun. I dont think I did so hot from a financial standpoint, but I got my money's worth out of the fun.
Out of 10 packs, I did get 3 retrofractors (its easy when you know the language ) of Kearns, Reyes and Maddux, 2 Chrome paralells, a then and now with Mays and Thome, the Kaline F4 and 6 short prints including the #1 Thome and 3 high numbers. And I also got a couple great Cubs cards to boot.
The cards themselves were fun to look at and the bubble gum was great.
All in all a fun time. I just might have to do that again.
Pardon the new stuff rookie question (I have never had any refractors before), but in just 1 night the refractor cards have curled somewhat. Is that common?
John If you are still on the planet - check you last emails - you can see the final on what I have extra from my set - let me know - so far I've got the 3 inserts for you. Mike
I'm starting to wonder if it was just the first shipment that was "loaded" for the retail boxes, to get people excited (not a bad tactic...)
Found a retail box at Target last night. The haul...
2 Chrome (/1955) 1 Flashback (Podres) 1 T&N (Newcombe/Don't have card handy) 12 SPs, including Manny
So, good for $30, but not the thrill-a-minute I'd been hoping for based on previous packs I'd opened.
Now I'm sitting on 600 or so cards, nowhere near a full set, not sure what to do next (just bought a low-grade Cobb, so my card budget is a bit reduced right now...). Great gum, though.
I am not a new card buyer, but as I am slowly working on the original 1955 set, this seemed like a good one to try. I bought 2 of the retail boxes at target and opened one pack on the drive home. It contained the Kearns SP, a Musial flash back, and best of all I got a Kaline autograph relic card numbered 13/25. 21 more packs to go.
Luke
Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s. 54 Red Hearts and now 64 Stand ups
BTW for the people that sell/ship, the 29.99 boxes come with great packing material. I got one Chrome no GU and a few SPs. I will be going back out tomorrow and check the Wal Mart and Target again, as I now have some POSITIVE cash flow for once...
Feel the Force Luke - your luck is right up there with Kevin today - I especially like the Kaline - very quietly one of the greats - unfortunately playing an entire career in a small market - just imagine if he had played in NY. Mike

Steve
They had them both at Target and Walmart. And I only bought 10.
I just opened one, but had a question.
I got a THC25 Austin Kearns, but its a 112/555. A prior poster had the same number card but it had a population of 1955. Whats the difference?
Ill open more and see what is what.
BTW..its great to see a baseball card of Derrek Lee as a Cub.
Thanks

the curling of the Chrome cards are common. Put the card into a top loader and it will straighten out.
Wufdude- Actually I do not have any modern cards left (sold them all off) except my 2003 Bowman Heritage and 2004 Topps Heritage Master Sets.
Let me know if you could use any cards from my extra SPs & Inserts.
Please email me at jbasilone@adelphia.net and I can give you my shipping address.
Thats very nice of you.
