Why do some folks get worked up about every slab-du-jour that comes along. Think of it as a plastic 2x2 with a handwritten grade on it. How likely are you to believe that?

If a price is quoted from the PCGS price list or similar, then it is likely you're dealing with someone who is less than honest. Simple, isn't it?
  • Before long we are going to need a certification service for certification services. I can forsee a dialogue on this board in a few years:

A: Have you heard of Bozo Certified, Inc?
B: Yes, but they have not yet been certified by CSCS*. Don't buy from them.

  • I've dealt with "coinsbyhucky" more than once and was always pleased with transaction and service.
  • More plastic for the slab collectors to collect.

40 years from now, the coin will be expensive because of the "slab".

The point is is that not everyone is educated on the various grading services. Folks are creating slabs that appear to come from legitimate grading services. Coins are busy enough, but to have to worry which grading services are real. I believe the person is trying to take advantage of some newbie. If it were just in a plastic container, that would be one thing, but to give it a serial number and a company name, that is meant to deceive.

  • Like this?

I've been trying to figure out where "Capitol Coin Grading" is located, but email to this seller was not satisfactory. Seller tells me that he bought the coins already slabbed, and he doesn't know where this company is.

I'm curious though, since he doesn't know where the company is located, why he would purchase significant amounts of inventory from "Joe Bob Coin Grading Service" that no one else had heard of?

In a way that reminds me of McDonalds pitch in the mid 80s about using 100% American beef. Didn't say it was from the USA, could have been from Brasil and technically been called (South) American beef.

I've bought from hucky early on.
Prices were "ok", no big deals but not overally high either.
Some items were ok (most were) but some of the proof SAEs I got had to be sent back (there was no problem with them on this) as they appeared to have been opened by someone and rubbed with a rough cloth.

Like I said, this was very early in my ebay collecting, prior to me finding this board thanks to comments by K6AZ on the RCC forum, and I was surprised to find out that the proof SAEs were actually easy to open (I discovered it at that time when I wondered how they were so scratched up already).

THey were cool about it but didn't have another 1993 SAE proof to replace with at that price image So I got a refund.

They had said they buy a lot, in lots, and sell quickly so they don't always look closely at the items.....I doubt that, but, they did do the return easily which is probably why they don't have many negs.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I saw this recently and am not sure of what I think about it. I have had a lot of dealings with Hucky and have had nothing but good experiences. But, all of the auctions won were for sealed proof and mint sets. The other positive is that they at least downgraded it from the ACG grade. So, can't speak for their grading but they're a nice group to work with.

How stupid would you feel if you resubmitted a coin and it got downgraded...

Been building it for five years now.
  • what I dont get is that he's calling it an MS65 but including an MS66 label from it's previous slab. haha...he's proud to have downgraded it? or...did I miss something.
