Why did you have these very low grade coins graded by PCGS?

Colorfulcoins, you collect in a very strange way. Most people try to buy the highest grade, not the lowest. I guess it is your money and if you want to give it to PCGS that is up to you.

Anybody with money can buy the highest grade. That's been done to death.

::Tough to type:: but will work through it. . .

Nice catch, especially on that gold (next to impossible to locate in Problem Free Super Low Grade condition.
I'm especially impressed with line 12 and 16. I never found anything even close in grade as the lower you get- the more problems the coin picks up.
Graig- what are you finding to be the real stoppers at this point?

    Geez!

    Three P-01's, five FR-02's, nine AG-03's, two G-04's, and a VG-08.

I knew PCGS can be conservative, but that's tough!

That is trully the best grade results I have seen on this forum! Fantastic! Anyone can grade MS coins, except Marty, and you have an exceptional eye to get these in, graded and slabbed! 100% is great!image

"Craig- what are you finding to be the real stoppers at this point?"...........Braddick

Pat, as you know, there are 132 coins in the US type Set and I'm at 49% (!!!!! almost half way). There are about 10-20 extremely tough (read $$$$$$$) coins - so getting to 85% or even 90% completion is relatively do-able (some of the tough non-gold coins include 1792 disme, 1796/1797 Half, 1836/39 Gobrecht $1 etc.). There's lots of tough Gold coins.

Re the hard coins, its really quite funny, as it's the newer coins that are tough! 1941-1945 Silver War nickels, 1946-1964 silver Rosy dimes, 1959-1964 memorial penny, 1943 zinc war penny - haven't see a coin worth submitting yet for any of these. Still looking for a Frankie that grades below VG10!

But as a whole, finding GOLD coins is the toughest - almost all the low grade gold gets melted for scrap so finding anything below VG is tough (and much of it has been cleaned).

As noted in prior posts, finding Good-4 and lower grade coins that will slab isn't that easy....think about it - many of these coins have been cleaned, holed, damaged, scratch, nicked, bent (try to find low grade half-dimes that aren't bent) or otherwise unsuitable. Its really just as much a challenge as finding high grade pieces (but alot less costly to acquire and stomach when you make a puchasing mistake - oops).

I will say that I've learned and am continuing to learn about coins in many series that I've never collected....its educational and for the most part, inexpensive. I also get to go dumpster diving at all the coin show in those $1 coins buckets looking for "GEMS" - more than one dealer has looked at me strangely when I'm negotiating a pile of scrubby coins that average $2-5 each! The nice thing is, I can find coins at virtually any show or auction forum I look at....

So.......anyone got some worn coins I need?????

Bill, I challenge you (since you are dedicated Rosy collector) to find a Good-4 or lower grade Rosy that would slab at PCGS.....the gauntlet is thrown!

Not to worry, these low grade collectors heirs will wonder about the saneness of their fore bearers.
