1969 TOPPS UPDATE ON POP REPORT

THIS IS MY FIRST TRY AT INITIATING A NEW THREAD. IN UPDATING MY SPREAD SHEET FOR MY 1969 TOPPS SET, I COUNTED 25 CARDS THAT HAVE NO PSA9's OR PSA10's. ALSO THERE ARE 63 WITH ONLY 1 PSA9. THAT REPRESENTS 13.25% OF THE BASIC SET OF 664. THE 23 WHITE LETTERS AND YELLOW LETTERS AND THE 8 VARIATIONS ARE ONLY INCLUDED IF THE POP REPORT NUMBERS COMBINE THEM . THE INDIVIDUAL COUNTS ARE NOT ACCURATE. SOME CARDS ARE SPECIFICATLY IDENTIFIED BY CORRECT LABELING , AND SOME ARE NOT IDENTIFIED AS WHITE OR YELLOW (ONLY AS "NA"). IT WOULD BE A GREAT SERVICE TO THE MASTER SET COLLECTORS TO RETURN UNLABELED CARDS TO PSA BE CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED AS WHITE OR YELLOW (AS WELL AS THE OTHER 8 VARIATIONS). ALS0, IT IS UNFORTUNATE, BUT THE PSA REGISTRY ACCEPTS A YELLOW (WEIGHT 1) AS A WHITE (WEIGHT 3.5) AND VISA VERSA. THEY NEED TO CORRECT THIS OR SOME MASTER SET ENTRIES MAY NOT CREDIT THE WHITE LETTER CARDS CORRECTLY. FOOD FOR THOUGHT. RON

I just checked my whites from the 69 set and they all seem to be labled correctly. I will check the yellows next.

Ron, Do the errors come from them being listed wrong on the submission perhaps? Or is PSA supposed to pick that up when grading?

The Whites are just screwed. THey have no clue as to what the real POP is for the White's. I guarrantee its not whats listed. There is a Pirates (R) #468 up now that is labeled as White and is a yellow.

  • Magellan , PSA may take a submission that is noted as white or yellow and simply fail to label it as such. In such a case they often put it in their computer data base as "NA". I may say that this most often occured prior to the introduction of the MASTER set in the Registry. They are getting better, but there is a lot of water over the bridge to clean up the data base and POP report. Also, I have a large number of PSA7's as dups, but Ray Boehm gets first shot if he wants to trade his PSA8 white letter...... I am Ron Hobbs at twinron40@aol.com.

  • I have had 5 cards corrected to read "yellow" that were listed as "white" when the cert was run through the cert verification. I asked Cosetta if the population report would be corrected and she said it would. This is the only way that the population report will ever come close to being correct.
