1976 Topps All-Time Greats subset...

TabeTabe Posts: 6,060 ✭✭✭✭✭
Greetings all.

As a kid some 20 years ago, I completed the 1976 Topps All-Time Greats subset. I'm thinking of doing those cards again, only PSA graded. Any idea what I can expect to pay for these cards? I'm thinking I'd want PSA 7, 8, or 9 cards.

Any info would be most appreciated...

Thanks,

If you're talking about the "All-time All Star" subset, you'll have no problem putting the set together on a shoestring budget. PSA 7's can be had for less than the cost of grading. The 8's usually sell for at, or slightly above the grading fee. PSA 9's however, are a different story. Depending on the card, and your timing, you could pay anywhere from $10 per card up to $100 or more.

    Good luck with the set!

Excellent, that's exactly what I'd hoped to hear! I was thinking I'd aim for PSA 8, that sounds really doable...

Yep, PSA 8 would be a good balance between quality and affordability. The Ruth may set you back $10-20 but you should be able to build the set for <$100.

    Enjoy the pursuit.

Another nice subset that I put together about 20 years ago is the 1961 MVP's. The AL is in a red background and the NL is blue.
I had seen a picture of a nicely framed group of these and really liked it. I still need to frame mine. Sometimes a nicely framed raw subset can be beautiful.

Anyone else have a favorite subset?

I always like the 75 MVPs subset because you could actually see what some of the cards from those years actually looked like! They didn't all match the backgrounds so well (don't know if I'd frame them), but still a fun set just the same! I actually tried to get all the cards depicted on those MVPs, but I'm still looking for the 62 Wills, and the 55 Campy...

My favorite subset is the 1969 Topps Baseball All-Stars ! I like the cards because of the Pete Rose and Yaz puzzles on the backs ! I must of made at least ( 5 ) sets of Rose and Yaz each ! Those two would make a great item to put in a picture frame ! ...............Robby
