Poll...Does your interest in coins border on obsession?

Or worse? Come on, be honest...

I'll admit that I go through phases of differing levels of interest. Let's leave it at thatimage

I have also decided at times that I wasn't going to buy another coin far a while, and then sure enough, a "got to have it" comes along.

Do you think that some degree of obsessive/ compulsive behavior is common in all collectors?

It fluctuates. Right now I don't have the money to be obsessed.
  • I can spend an hour waiting for a reply to a thread just to read it,so I would say completely obsessed.
  • I think i can get obsessed at times. i work out of town a lot so there is nothing else really to do. HMMMMM Gentlemens clubs or coins . 50 50 I guess a lot easier to justify coins to wife anyway. Not that I have my VAM book,,,,,,,, What day is it?image

Then buy some books on your series, another series etc or start collecing another series or topic. That's what I do. Sometimes I would go two or three years without buying anything except books.

Since my meds aren't helping to curb my obsession; I'm going to stop taking them and use the money to purchase another overpriced coin. image

  • OBSESSED, OBSESSED AND MORE OBSESSED!!!
  • I'm obsessed when I have the funds to purchase the coins I enjoy. When the funds run dry I'm a little on the "whoa is me" side of collecting and find myself reading more and more about the coins I already own.

I have no money to spend, but waste a ton of time on these boards and just rolled $330.00 of change for a friend, just to pick through his pocket change. I bought a Morgan Dollar on Ebay last night that I have no idea how I will pay for. I'll be able to swing it, however. NEVER underestimate what an addict will do to get a fix.

  • I don't know if this means I'm obsessed or not, but I used to have this recurring theme in my dreams where I would find a box of 1870's Indians somewhere, somehow at random (for example, at the bottom of a swimming pool)... these would include 1871s and 1872s in MS-64RD, and plenty of 1877's! When I bought all those dates, the dreams went away and I haven't had them since. I do dream about 1856 FE cents a lot, though... !

Thank God I'm not alone. Quite awhile ago I realized it was no longer a hobby, but an obsession.

I have not gotten to dreaming about finding a trunk of coins yet though... give me some time, I'm sure I will....

Yeah, I spend a lot of time on coins, but I can quit whenever I want. Really - course I'm a charter member of coinaholics anonymous, but we're not allowed to publize our organization so as to keep our wives from finding out what we really do when we stay out late image
