I sent 4 coins to PCGS last thursday (my club freebies). I packed them in an Altoids tin, wrapped it with foam, and then in a box the size for mailing a video tape. I had to repagage it because I only used clear tape to close the box. I re-packed it in the same type box but then used brown paper package tape. When I brought it to the post office, they stamped every inch or so of the paper tape and all edges. I suppose to make sure it would not be opened.
I of course sent it registered and insured. I got a tracking number so I could track it online. Well every time I go to track it, I get this message...
Your item was accepted at 11:37 am on February 26, 2004 in FAIRFIELD, CT 06825. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.
Shouldn't there be more info for it by now? Man this is killing me! Will PCGS send an e-mail when it arrives?
Thanks, John

Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.

You are lucky to get that much information. Mine usually say..... "unknown tracking number" or something to that effect. Pretty sick feeling the first couple times that happened, but all was really OK.
Thanks again, John

<< <i>USPS will only scan it upon mailing and then upon delivery. >>
No--they scan and sign for registered packages EVERYWHERE... they don't get lost
Not true. Its scanned at every stop. The USPS can track em all, but you can't. Go to your PO and ask them if you are that concerned. They may or may not charge for this service. They can also track a package from the insurance numbers if you ask them to.
I am starting to get a bit worried about the package. Anyone else know how long it takes to go from the east coast to PCGS priority, registered?
Does the fact that it is registered delay it any?
Arggghhhh!!!!!!!

I will hope to find out about it tomorrow.
What part of CT are you from, perhaps we could meet up sometime?

I understand completely why you are concerned - I've done that 3 or 4 times now. But I assure you that you are completely wasting time and energy worrying about a Registered package.
Do yourself a favor and quit checking the "tracking." Your package is not lost and there will be no problem. It will take it's time getting there....... but as you can see the USPS tracking is a joke - which makes Registered all that more key when sending important packages.
<< <i>I packed them in an Altoids tin >>
You coins will turn into pence if left in that tin too long.
Just showed up on the PCGS site as arrived! Whew!
Thanks for all the help.
