Best Circulation Find of My Life

I was over a friend of mine's house a few weeks ago. He is a genius scientist with more money than time. His apartment was littered with bowls and jars of change. Since I have more time than money, I agreed to roll it all for him. I only asked that I could buy any of the coins for face value. The results:

Out of $220.00 in quarters---Nothing
Out of $20.00 in Nickels-- Nothing
out of $50.00 in dimes--- one 1964 90% silver
out of $9.50 in Lincolns--- 1983 DDR, Red. VF condition, obverse green splotch---Net grade F.

I know that this does not make me a rich man, but I was getting sick of looking through so much change with so little payoff. I had never seen an '83 DDR, and had no idea the doubling was so dramatic. My hands were trembling too much to hardly roll after that. My prior best circulaton find was a '37 Buff in VF.

The price guides don't list a price for low-end '83 DDRs. Any guesses as to Value would be appreciated.

    Cool!
probably a hundred bux or close to it I'd guess if the green isn't awful or can be safely removed.

Nice find. I was happy with the 3 silver nickels I found last week. I can certainly understand your excitement.

  • I recently got a big box of pennies from my father in law. 40+ pounds to be exact. So far I found about 5 pounds of wheats, nothing great but cool anyway. The best part is finding the choice coins from the 60's and 70's that look MS. I have been swapping tons of coins out of my collection for the nice ones from his box. I still have a long way to go, but am hoping to find at least one DD or other error.

Takes time, but it might just pay off!

Thanks, Goose, the coinstore did actually give me $100.00 for it. It was a Godsend because I have just won a Morgan on Ebay that I didn't have the cash for.
