Hey all...

I want to get a US Coin from the 1700's, just to have it. I want to get it raw. I know basically zero about coins this old. Can you tell me what the best to buy would be that are relatively cheap and worry free of counterfeit and being modified.

There are some nice large cents from the 1700s that are reasonable. A 1798 can be picked up for not too much money and it will have some decent detail.

I'm going to agree with that, I don't think counterfeiting of the Cents is a widespread phenomenon. They also won't cost an arm and a leg. Just a few fingers or so.
  • Like landlord said, a 1798 large cent would easily be the cheapest U.S Mint coin of the 1700's that you'll
find. You might be able to pick up a worn (but not too bad) Connecticut Cent of 1785-87 for even less.
    Possibly in the $10-$20 range.

get either a foreign coin, ideally mexican, or a colonial. example, 8-reales for 40 bucks is very doable.

Try for a 1798 Large cent.
    All glory is fleeting.
