    I'd pay less than face value for each - since I'd have to crack that plastic away in order to spend them.

    I know that rubber bands will make a very ugly streak of toning on silver coinage.But will it affect the coin if it is in a slab?

    Over time, yes. It just takes longer but over a couple years the sulfur in the rubber WILL migrate through the plastic and tarnish the coin.
