Will a toned coin bring more money in a PCGS holder than it will in a NCG or any other? Inquiring minds want to know.

The P.C. thing to say is the coin, not the holder will determin value, the truth in the auction market place is that two coins [one in an ngc holder and one in a pcgs holder] of equal quality & eye appeal being sold at the same time will bring more for the coin in the pcgs holder most of the time.

Look at the Heritage auction archive and see if I'm not right on this.

The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.

I think a cheap common questionable coin will bring just a little more in a PCGS holder but on expensive no brainer original toners it doesn't matter much. I don't have any evidence to support that though.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Which means I can find very attractive toned coins in NGC holders and pay less !!image

I agree with these guys, which is why I go out of my way to be ANACS and NGC coins. ANACS and NGC are always where I at least start my search. I can oft times find the same exact coin (eye appeal as well as technical grade) for a bit less. Just have to look out for the ones that are clearly just borderline for their grade.

For a variety of reasons, coins in many series of a given grade will tend to command more in PCGS rather than NGC holders. Typically, what we're talkng about here is the typical quality of coin in the same grade for each grading service.

Of course, a PQ toned NGC dollar will bring more than an average toned PCGS dollar. And, the new official * eye appeal designation should make an NGC coin with worth somewhat more than the exact same coin in PCGS holder of the same grade.

With PCGS gem toned dollars, the buyer pretty much has a good idea of the coin's technical quality (not necessarily eye appeal) sight unseen. With NGC, there is much more variability. Possibly, the very best NGC toned dollars were crossed previously to PCGS. The * designation should reverse that trend. Finally, I find MS67 PCGS toned dollars much scarcer than, and of a little technical qulaity than similarly toned NGC dollars.

So would it be worthwhile then to try to cross a very nice toner from NGC to PCGS or not?

i don't get it. are you COLLECTING such coins? or are you wanting to make a quik buck? if your speculating, & the coin's nice, don't fret about the plastic. such coins bring the right price in a reasonable venue.

if your collecting, crack the coin out & enjoy it.
