Without it I'd prolly be buying cleaned, AT'd, damaged junk.

I also managed to learn a few things about coins in the process.
I was such a loser before I found this place.
seems like I am in a sarcastic mood this morning.

Much more so is the INFO shared, not to mention the pics shared that now fill my virtual coin library.

But since you ask it's taught me a lot about how eBay works.

Its made my mouse hand hurt more.
Its made my wife check my history files to look for suspicious behavior.....among other things..like her bursting into my office and yelling, " AH Haaahhhh, I caught you!".....and she then finds pictures of rainbow coins and bust halves.
Its made me more aware of grading services and more accurate at grading.
2) Put me on the computer more often......
3) Reduced the time I spend with my family.....
4) Made me gain 20lbs by sitting in front of the computer for hours....
5) Become less social with my friends... (nope... sorry... can't go out tonight)..
THIS FORUM IS GREAT!!!!!!!

The first is that I've learned to look at coins less as "investments" and more as collectibles to appreciate. The second is I've learned that not all grading/slabbing services are equal. The third is that it has allowed me to personally meet some fellow collectors.

I now have a network of people I can contact when I have a question, and the expertise is astounding. In return, I try to answer the questions which are within my level of knowledge.
I learned that far more people than I ever imagined could be possible in a hobby, are 99% into the money and 1% into the coins.
I got to meet a local dealer who gives me the chance to work behind the table at some local shows. I learned about some good dealers for various coins, many of whom aren't exactly big names.
As 291fifth said, I get to read show reports as they happen.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
the real truth about many coins in my collection.
I learned that some of what I called knowledge was just fiction.
all in all, pretty good. Thanks PCGS.
<< <i>Keeps the old brain active, definitely improves my numismatic skills, shows me all kinds of places on the internet to spend my money, better than betting on the poines or playing the numbers, one of the more fun things I do with my clothes on, a great way to avoid work at my office (Hey, I'm the BOSS . . . ), lots of wonderful pictures to drool over, met a few nice people, got to join in flaming a few others--
all in all, pretty good. Thanks PCGS. >>
yeah what lawman sez.....insight ...input ...input ....number 5 needs input!
I suppose the it I keep refering to is all of you. Thanks for helping me enjoy this hobby so much more then I would have otherwise.
I'm a happy camper.
1) It has provided me with a group of people to share my purchases and collection with, making my hobby a far less solitary one. It's nice to be able to go someplace and talk about my colection with people who understand what I've bought or done, or at least have a basic interest.
2) It has educated me in areas of the hobby and related fields that I would have never dug into myself, or even known about. The amount of raw knowledge that I have picked up here in six months is amazing.
3) It has widened my tastes as a collector. If not for the forum, odds are I would have stayed within my collecting of Nickels, and not gotten interested in the Quarter Eagle Indians here on the Lightside, or my collection of Euro coinage over on the Darkside. Two collections I had not even imagined myself starting or even caring about a year ago. I have also gained deep interest in Pattern Coinage, and some day hope to own one or two. All because what I was exposed to here.
4) It has made me a better buyer of material by pointing me at the many auction houses, and making me aware of the possible pitfalls of buying online with specific series (The Quarter Eagles in specific).
5) It's made me feel a welcomed part of a community.

I would like to add...at times I have fallen off my chair.........From laughing at the funny things people ahve written and........From sitting in front of the computer too long and having WAY TOO MANY Beers while reading and watching the auctions.
I love this Place....Walt
<< <i>It has given a real direction in life. Before this forum I was totally lost. I am so thankful.

Met some awesome people, learned alot, and made some lifelong friends that I look forward to meeting in person someday.
even raised some controversy now and then, had a few good debates and not so good debates...but all in all....fun.
Been collecting for about a year now and I've been buying everything that piqued my interest, big mistake, well I've also learned not to do that, damn shame I can't get every coin I see.
This year I'll concentrate on one type of coin.
A while back a fellow member ( I'm to lazy to check the thread and get the members name) showed us his Morgans in VF to BU grades, I like the look of that collection and I'm gonna try to fill an album also. Got my first VF coin (1895-O), it's slabbed, I have a hard time telling if a coin is cleaned or not so I'm hoping the forum can help me with that. Let me re-phrase that, I can't tell if a coin has been cleaned or not and I know the forum can help with that.
Oh BTW the forum has also done something for my wife, she now checks the credit card statements as they come in. Been married 15 years, she's never done that before, now for some reason she needs to know much new money I'm spending on old money, what's up with that???
A big thank you to all the forum members for educating this old fool.

yes, I have become educated also.
