Hey gang,
A week or so ago we had a discussion on combo cards, or multi-player
cards. 1420Sports (Neal) mentioned that he was surprised there wasn't
a set on the registry based on these cards. After exchanging a couple
emails (and a fax) with 1420Sports, I decided to put together a list.
This was a lot easier to put together thanks to an old baseball card
magazine I still have from 1983. Credit also goes to Bob Lemke for
putting together a great article on multi-player cards, listing every
one made from '53-'69. I'm posting it here for a couple reasons. First,
I was hoping you guys could look it over and see if I made any mistakes
or ommisions. I also would like to hear any suggestions, and whether or
not any of you will make an attempt to build this specialty set. Thanks
for looking.
Multi-Player Feature Baseball Card Set -- The Golden Era 1953-1969
A multi-player feature card is a card that depicts more than one player,
but does not include team cards, league leader cards, or rookie stars/
prospects cards. (sorry, Jay, we had to draw the line somewhere)
Although multi-player cards can be found in sets as old as the popular
Old Judge series, this set will focus on the "Golden Era" of multi-player
cards. The battle in the card market between Topps and Bowman during the
1950's is what introduced the appearance of multi-player cards on a
fairly regular basis, and between 1953 and 1969 they made some great
multi-player cards!
