Now this is no rarity,

but it is intriguing nonetheless. It is a fantasy strike of the elusive 1945 silver threepence. The real coin is possibly unique.

    I enjoy reproduction, or at least reproductive contact, but I don't see buying a reproduction of a coin I can't own.

    Dumb question, but...why is the 1945 silver threepence elusive?

    Not a dumb question.

    There were some 370,000 minted, but all were melted. Apparently one is known to have escaped this fate.

    There is some inconsistency in this report, I note one publication stating the coins were really dated 1944.image Anyone have the definitive study?
