Shipping fees & negative feedback on ebay

I sold FAO coins for sale few weeks ago on ebay. Since coins weighed approx 1lb & had good potential to sell world wide, I left shipping fees 0.00 & noted in listing "Buyer will pay actual shipping costs" & checked "buyer pays all shipping on ebay". Newbie bought coins & got ebay confirmation which lists shipping as 0.00. He only paid his bid amount through paypal. I emailed him several times about shipping & he finally agreed to pay $4.00. I like a fool shipped coins & now two weeks later heard nothing & received nothing. Question: Would you negative feedback over $4.00 or should I let it go? I rarely if ever have left negative feedback...afraid of retaliation feedback. Do you guys tend to shy away from leaving negative feedback. Thanks

    I don't understand...

he paid for the auction, then he sent $4 more at your request, and you sent the coins, and you haven't heard from him and you want to possibly neg him?????

If you are going to be a seller you don't want to risk getting negative feedback. Don't give the buyer negative feedback but do block him from your future auctions.

oh, I see, he never paid the 4 dollars he agreed to, for the actual shipping cost....

sometimes my command of the English language is very poor...

Cat, just eat the $4......... and let it be........

  • I will probably resist my desire to post negative feedback. $4.00 is one thing but the lying really get mys goat. (bah...bah). Ebay needs a way to avoid showing shipping costs as 0.00 when seller needs to determine the shipping costs after sale. Most people have sense to read description & also read all of ebay's emails about the sale, but I have had few dim bulbs who want the 0.00 shipping that ebay told them about. Thanks for input

  • Let it go! I too state "Buyer pays actual shipping". It's really up to each individual to leave what they believe to be the correct feedback. I wouldn't leave any feedback for the purchaser and move on to the next item. "What's goes around, comes around!"

Sorry, I too lack the command of the english language, like Lucy. I would leave a gentle mediocre feedback. Hopefully the person would get the message.

Absolutely not. Buyers are not obligated to leave feedback. Sounds like the only reason you want to give him negative feedback is because he didn't leave you feedback.

in the future, never put "0.00" in the shipping cost box, it implies free shipping.

instead, put an amount that would cover normal shipping for the weight of the item in the US and state that international buyers will pay more and to email you for details.

This time, i would let it go and live and learn. you might try emailing the buyer one last time to "remind" him that he owes you a couple of bux.

  • I once had a seller refund/reject my original payment because of a minor typo of $0.09 in his favor (I typed $18.29 instead of $18.20). He simply stated that I was overpaying and needed a correct amount. Perhaps in the future you need to reject payments that don't match.

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.
  • Not question of him leaving feedback. He lied & did not pay. I di not request or expect feedback. As far as putting dollar amount in shipping, when item could sell world wide, cost could be very high & may scare off bidders.

If it were me, I'd use ebays system and obtain his contact info and call the SOB.

$4 or $400, it's the principle of the thing.
  • On my one e-bay sale I stated free shipping in the description and put $5.00 shipping elsware by accident. They paid the $5.00 shipping and I wrapped the slab in a $5.00 bill to keep it warm.
  • So now you want to be ebay police? Or are you set on yourself that you cant sleep feeling youve been ripped for $4. I certainly hope you wont miss a meal.

You've already caused yourself much more than 4$ bucks worth of aggravation and now you want to ding him or call him for it. Give it up. It's petty and if you called me or dinged me for the cost of a macburger id consider you a real Ahole.

Look at the real issue here.. You're hung up on your pride.

Well consider it $4 tuition to eBay University!

  • I know it has been said before but if you feel strongly about the $4.00 wait till day 89 then neg him. He won't find out till to late.
  • well copperdude, its nice to get good advice on how to backstab another person

i hope someone gives you the same courtesy someday
  • if somebody doesn't fulfill their obligation, then they deserve neg feedback. However, if it's just a newbie, then it appears you are paying to educate his dumb a$$. cuz he can't read. I agree not fair, but not enough to risk a neg. IMHO

How new was this bidder? If he has a 0 feedback and this was his first auction I'd let it slide. Even if it wasn't his first I'd still let it go. No need to start a war over $4 clamsimage

Why are people hassling on this?
Buyer did NOT pay the required and stated shipping. It is thievery.
Yes, it is "only" $4, but if it were a buyer coming on here and saying that seller was charging $4 or else they wouldn't ship the item, everyone would be getting on the bandwagon.

If it was stated in the auction that actual shipping would be charged, then that is what should happen. To do less than that, as a buyer, is theft. Anyone saying to "just forget about it" is enabling this. Do YOU KNOW whether the person made a mistake or has done this before?

I am for the seller on this and if it were clearly stated in my auction, I would leave a neg even at the risk of a retaliatory one. I am honest and upfront and I don't back down. Others would do it differently and that is their choice.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • So none of you have ever forgotten about some item we owed under 5 bucks because it wasn't worth the effort. Never skipped on a petty amount that we forgot about or failed to return a small item borrowed.

Gee how quick we are to hose someone else for something so petty. We always have a high standard for OTHERS to live by.

If the 4 bucks means that much , send me your paypal address and Ill give it too you.

4 bucks in nothing, lunch money.

I listed a coin that said $4.50 S/H in the ad, but in the eBay section it listed $0.00

Of course the buyer didn't include S/H. Since it was my mistake I didn't say anything, shipped his coin and left positive feedback.

If you don't know your shipping costs either use the new Shipping Calculator, or select the "NO" option

Include domestic (United States) shipping rates with my listing:
    No, skip section below
Yes, specify below (faster payment and easier for buyer)

It's only $4. If you trade negatives, you might be out more than that with lost bids. I would just forget about it, chalk it up to a learning experience. And block him from bidding on any more of your auctions.

Since you are partially to blame for checking the box in your listing that said 0.00 shipping I wouldn't worry much about it unless you are really feeling like a hardass today.

I agree that $4 is nothing to get worked up over. I also say forget about it and for next time make sure to put something in your Ebay description that states:

"Buyers must wait until I send invoice before paying so that I, the seller and you, the buyer do not run into a discepency on total amount owed"

    Just my $.02

I agree that it's risky leaving negative feedback. But I would ban the jerk from any of your future auctions. The guy clearly understood what he was doing if you wrote him emails and he responded.
Amazing what some people will do to save 3-4 bucks!! What ever happened to honesty?

I never bid on an auction when the shipping charge is not stated in the auction because I don't know what "actual shipping charges" means.

I think you could save yourself some grief and miscommunications (and possibly attract more bidders) if you simply included a shipping amount in your auction.

    Joe.
