I need large, cheap coins

I need at least 50 of the same coin, something larger than a USquarter or a British tuppence, to use as props for a play. We don't have a huge budget for props, so these can't be worth terribly much.

If anybody knows of some likely candidates of coins for me to search for (large and worthless...), great. If you have a whole bunch of them you want to sell me, even better!

Spray paint poker chips in the color you want to look like coins. That is the cheapest way to make props.

  • Your best bet may be to find a couple well circulated rolls of half dollars or Sacagawea dollars? That's about as close to face value as you're like to find, maybe? I think the gold coins with the chocolate insides cost more than a half dollar now!imageimage

Go to your local banks and ask for rolls of halves or Ike's if they have them.
I did and have a bunch.

I would (and will) offer, but I think shipping may make it not worth it to you.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

go to a casino if one is close and get the dollar tokens.

  • maybe i should be more specific:

dollar coins are still waaay too expensive....i need 50-80 of these, and tons of them are going to get lost during the run of the show

they need to be actual metal (plastic/chocolate isn't weighted well for flipping, and we want them to clink)

british tuppence would be perfect, but they're a little too small.

thanks to all of you for your suggestions so far!
  • Pesos? I don't have any, but they tend to be big and cheap.

Pesos will not work, the ten peso which is worth about $1.00 is the size of the half dollar. Anything less less than ten peso would be too small.
