I know this is petty, but does anyone know...

Why the heck are 1/2 dimes after nickels in the Red Book, auctions, etc? This has never made a lick of sense to me since the 1/2 dimes came first.... Does anyone know this?

  • They're silver and they were shooting for some sort of consistency in listing them that way. However, they still put the 3 cent silvers smack in the middle of the base coinage.

Most likely because of the name.
    Nickels have always been $0.05
    Dimes are $0.10
Half dimes are $0.05 like a nickel but have DIME in the name. So, for continuity of naming, they are likely placed after nickel (still 5 cents like the nickel) and run into the dime.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Amazingly, these answers almost make sense. I still don't like it, but it makes sense...
