jay, it's all about your source. I opened a 1981 Vending case once to sell the boxes individually because there is more money to be made that way. I have perfect feedback to people trusted me when I said that I opened the case myself. Not every vending box has seen 20 different owners since being out of it's case. Some are case fresh.
I agree with you, Jay and Steve. It's hard to believe a VB up for sale hasn't been searched, but it certainly could be "fresh" and un-picked-through. It all depends on the seller. That is why I wondered if anybody had dealings with this guy...not just because I am skeptical, but because I wanted to know about a great experience, too!
Wabbit - What would be the since in opening 1981 vending boxes? Weak selection of good cards, and the design and photography are at best mediocre. If I had to pick Topps least inspired design of the last thirty years this one would certainly be near the top along with the 1979 set.
Collecting vintage material, currently working on 1962 topps football set.
True, I wouldn't waste my time searching 1981 boxes if I was a crooked seller, but if a seller with 10 feedbacks and a seller with 800 feedbacks sell the same box, one gets considerably more bids. Even if it's low dollar stuff, the people buying it still don't want it searched. Even 1988 Topps.
By the way, Dmitri Young has spent some sick money on 1981's in the past so I depends on your taste. One mans junk is another rich mans treasure (very rich man).
