Tell me NOT to buy this before it is too late

I don't need it but it sure is a cool thing to have.

A friend of mine is closing up his pawn shop and he is selling an antique manual coin counting machine. I have seen these is every bank I ever took a bag of mixed coins to. Its big and heavy, steel I suppose, and works great and he wants to get rid of it before he moves across the country. The price? A hundred fifty dollars. (could maybe get him down to one and a quarter)

I don't need it as I don't end up with that much pocket change to make it a wise investment... but..it sure is cool and would make an interesting piece of functional art for my home office. Tell me your thoughts.

TIA

Kris

Sounds like fun, you could count and see what the face value of your collection is.

I agree, buy it. If you hate the thing, you can always resell it.

BUY IT - the downside is minimal. I think it would be cool. Call me in the future if you get tired of it!!

That was what I was thinking.

As I am a retired Addressograph Multigraph field service rep I will tell you this little story. Addressograph in the late 1950s brought out the model 350 portable embossing machine which sold new for around $400. AM went under in the 1980s and if you can find and have a use today for this model 350 it will set you back in the neighborhood of $2,500 used or you can have one built new for over $5000. These machines are used at swap meets and veteran gatherings to emboss military dog tags plus metal tags for valve ID etc.

You can't go wrong paying $125-150 for what is, or soon to be, a antique.

You have to buy it. Just for the cool factor involved.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

  • Ok Ok.. you talked me into it.. I am going to buy it.. and haul it all to the way to my new house in florida..

I will hope you will all take up a collection for my needed hernia surgery from lugging this thing... and dont think I will forget those that say they would buy it if I tired of it.. image

I have a feeling it will appreciate in value because it is so unique and it will be an easy way to talk coins to my guests that come over and say.. "Hey, whats that thing?"

So much for what I just made in profit on that bag of Kennedys on ebay... a good cause, don't you think?

Gotta go find my sturdiest dolly... no, not my 1999 Madison.. the two wheeled thing movers use.

Thanks, oh wise board members, for helping me decide against reason and say yes to the cool factor.
