Uh-huh.. here are some points to ponder:

Anyone with a wad of cash can go to a show and buy these types of coins. Because Adrian has these does not make him god.

Adrian admits to playing with his photos.

NGC seems to be bending over backwards to get high dollar stuff into their slabs, no matter what they have to grade them. Do you really believe a 1898 Barber quarter exists in PF 69 DC? I don't.

  • Now the Snake owns some coins! Have you gone to look at the others in his store? WOW !
  • Yea....he does have some beauties!...This Barber just floors me though. I really like it. Even if K6AZ does say it's common......
  • Nice Cameo Proof Barbers look really nice, I saw a couple of PCGS Proof Barbers a couple months ago, all were at least PR64CAM, the best being a 67CAM (I think it was 67, might have been 66)

Those kinds of coins are NOT available at the big shows. Maybe I hint a little jealousy.
  • How would a collector have acquired a proof coin in the 1890's. Did the mint offer them for sale as they do now?image

Personally, the quality difference between PF 67 to PF 69 Barbers is usually very small....yet you are talking a 10-20x price differential.
The real difference is in the pops. You are paying for a pop difference.

Gradeflation will continue to expand the existing supply of PF67 coins into the PF68 range and the PF68's into the 69 range.

White DCAMS imo will slowly tone back (most have been dipped in the case of coins over 90 years old) to something other than a DCAM. Only a redipping will restore the look assuming you don't remove too much of the frost on each dip.

It IS an awesome Barber. If I were a type buyer, this is the "type" of type I would have in inventory ( hahahaha for about a day until I did someone a favor and offered it to them!)

  • I wonder what type of vacuum that coin was stored in to stay that white and original? My congrats to the individual who properly dipped that coin back to bleach white.
  • Amazing coin. If I can trade my wifes & my new truck for it we would have to walk to work. But we would have a great coin.image

    For $60K, give me a gem MS66 1901-s or a monster 1896-s gem.
Other choices to keep me happy would be a handful of MS67 examples of any of the better O mints like 96-0, 97-0, 98-0, 99-0,
    00-0, 01-0, 02-0, 03-0, 04-0, and 09-0. Just park 'em outside my door.

A very nice coin...but I wouldn't pay that kind of money for an 1898 Barber no matter how nice it was.

If there is a more perfect barber quarter of any date, i'd like to see it.

IMO, that is the best condition barber quarter possible.

Is it the Rarest date? obviously not. Is it the Prettiest? debateable, there are some gorgeous mint state coins, some toned, some white, as well as other proofs that might be more interesting to look at.

but no question, the coin is "top pop"

  • I love this Barber. If I had 60K to spend on a Barber, this one would be mine today. I wouldnt wait for the auction to end, I would call him right now. This coin is a bargain at this price in my book. Just look at the price paid for the now infamous 1963 PR70DCAM Lincoln cent. This coin is a real winner, not just a flash in the pan. image

I like it. It looks a lot like my Franklin Mint coins.

  • Anaconda has all kinds of gorgeous coins. I am SOOOO jealous of some of those flowing hair and draped bust items I could just turn completely green. Unfortunately it is all out of my league.

I think this is a lovely coin. I'm not too into Barbers, but this is a nice one.

It is a magnificent coin, but I dont think I would tie that kind of money'

up in a barber quarter, even of that state of preservation. In fact, I have no

idea how to go about even placing a value on that beauty.

I don't manipulate my photos. If you have a decent camera, you can adjust the settings to the point where all you have to do is crop and resize your images.

As far as the coin, I am sure it is a nice coin, but come on, PF 69 UC (I stand corrected) is a grade that a lot of the current moderns don't even get. I simply don't trust supergrade NGC coins, I've seen too many way off.

Why does this comment from you come as no surprise to me?

Suggestion: Take a look at what is just up for auction in the coming Baltimore show.

Does anyone know the history behind that coin? For it to be in that condition it had to be cared for lovingly. I wonder who owned it first...who has owned it from the beginning up until now? Bet ya it would be pretty interesting.
  • I really do not see where the photo was manipulated. I do see that the photo is dark on the surrounding area because of the glare of the coin. Does anyone else see where the pic was manipulated? Just curious.......

as a matter of fact, i do. if you believe there's a pcgs pr-68 1804 silver dollar, then you better believe a pr-69 barber can exist.
