After laughing in the faces of a few local dealers here who offered hobby boxes up for 90-100 bucks, I
held out for my favorite part of heritage collecting...the retail hunt
Ill admit I would think this is too early to find retail but thanks to the beckett guys I went out
tonight and sure enough at the local super walmart...two boxes!! well 23 count boxes...the
local fat retarded pack searcher had been through these.....but alas.....the real beef in
heritage can't be searched!!
DIE PACK SEARCHERS!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say I did very well, and these 23 packs blew away the 3 hobby boxes I bought last week.
23 packs (from 2 different boxes)
12 SP's including Sosa, Griffey and some good rookies
3 chromes...Crouthers, Teixeira,Weeks
1 Refractor Schill
AND.......beating the long 1:230 pull odds
Don Newcombe Real One Auto!!
With all the nobodies on the auto checklist I was very happy to pull someone as good as Newcombe. I
noticed the pull odds are EXACTLY the same as the hobby save for the autographed mem. the overall
GU/auto odds in both are 1:36 and both the red and blue autos are the same odds! So much for
paying jacked up hobby prices! Target and Wal-mart here I come!

I'm with you - my wife bought me a retail box of Bowman heritage from Target tonite - will go out and search for the 04 Heritage - I didn't do bad on two hobby boxes of 04 Heritage: 1 black chrome floyd (#43/55), 6 chrome, 1 refractor Crisp (360/555), Maddux and Pujols clubhouse but the qual. control was really bad - I'm sending 48 cards back to Topps due to damage - looks like a roller left a slight bend in the cards! I would be interested in retail with no premium.
Mike
Oh, nice pull on the auto!!!
I did fail to mention that many of the short prints had black on them, Ill be sending back some too. I
bought one box of bow heritage and pulled an auto AND GU...they are nice but they don't book
for squat. Nice pickup on the black refractor, they are VERY hard to pull.
JS
What auto did you get on the Bowman?
Mike
both from a retail 29.99 box..granted the two together wouldn't get me 10 bucks on ebay but none
the less, nice to look at!
JS
I don't have Val on my check list - is he from the 04 Heritage?
Mike
I had a conversation with a friend today and he told me that the retail version was exactly the same except you don't get that little box topper thing. I'm running out to Kmart first thing this morning to see if I can find any. I did buy a hobby box like an imbecil and my best pull was an Ishii jersey. Big deal!
Let me know if you still need any more base cards, I might be able to fill it out for you.
Steve
Yes the odds are the same except for the high end pulls..the auto bats and triple autos...but those are
like 1:30,000 versus 1:34,000 LOL
I have now pulled autos early in the retail print runs, four years straight! Arods the first two years and
a nice Lasorda last year. I really think that early on the autograph odds are better. If you can
pick up retail now you will be doing well. I usually pick a few from each box and keep track of what I
pull, then if you get a bunch of chromes or an auto you know to pick from another box. I hope they
do the sealed retail boxes too...they used to be 19.99 but last year they were 29.99 with more packs,
heck thats less than 2.99 a pack!
Good Luck and LMK who you pull
Kevin
in 2001 when the hobby boxes were selling for 150 a pop i headed straight for the inner-city and found a kmart that had two opened; but full boxes that were displayed. i grabbed them, i then asked one of the stock guys if they had anymore and lo behold he came back with 6 more! a case of retail for 20 bucks over retail. (i gave the kid a 20 dollar "finders fee") . sadly, in some parts of the city, food is more important than cards.
Hopefully my little hicktown is a little slower than the big cities. I'm going to check back in the next couple days. There didn't appear to be any "empty" spots on the shelves so I don't think I missed out on them.
Steve
also...does anybody know how much a 2003 heritage mays auto books for??
LOTH
HEY JOE STALIN, hows about selling me that sosa...is it centered without the black marks on it?
03 heritage May - $180 - ebay search of present and past auctions doesn't show any sales that I could find - have been looking for a few.
Also, if anyone is collecting the Bowman heritage 03 auto - I have two Hardens for trade. Thanx
Mike
convience stores....who jack up the prices to 3.49. Walmart was selling per pack. When
Kmart gets theirs, most likely they will have sealed 29.99 boxes......which gets you one
free pack. I haven't see anything at target yet either.
highend....Im curious how you did with those boxes? any autos you remember?
Lothar....The Sosa isn't great, but Ill let you know if I get a nice one. I tired to contact a few
guys about those 2 cards you needed for 03 but they didn't have them either. I swear that
some inserts and SP's in 2003 were shorter than others...I mean I have like 7 NAP1 and no
NAP 5 or 6's. Ive noticed this too with some of the SP's
Let us know if anyone happens upon some retail!
JS
you happen to do the heritage hockey sets?
Thanks
Kevin
loth
this year i couldnt do it...no fund with my search to complete 56 topps and a 57 topps yank's team set.....for 2005 im saving my cashola LOL
i want 2 cases!! it will be my only time to pull cards that look like my 56 topps set. ditto for 2006 heritage...best thing about 2006 is they should be completely identical ..completely...to the originals. i hope the boarder dimensions for the pictures are the same...i mean...how sweet will it be to hold up a mantle a arod and not be able to tell the arod is newer (besides condition). with 2005 and 6 there i the size difference...so its not QUITE the same....i seem tobe the only one with a problem with this...oh well.
let me know joestalin when u get the replacement for that sosa..
loth
only buy them as a last resort.
Loth...So you landed a case and only got one auto? I remember back in 2001 pulling autos from
my 2nd and third boxes...the first was Gil McDougald....I didn't know who the heck that guy was!
My dad would tell me later he was ROY and the coaches pet. I pulled Spahn out of my third
box and I was hooked. I remember my dealer pulled out some of his 1952 cards. They were
magical, I had never seen real 52 cards up close...he had many of the cards that topps did
autographs of.....those pictures are so America...in many cases guys who batted .100 or lost
15 games, but those pictures are what makes that set. The Larry Doby card comes to mind, he
looks lost, like a kid in a pros uniform. It was too bad that he never signed for that set, it would
of been a nice card. Ditto for Mathews.
Its fun to imagine 05 and 06 heritage, I hope topps puts deep thought into these sets. Im not sure
I liked the longer pull odds on the autographs and the weaker list this year but....man if you want to see a true
auto list go back to that 2001 list...1:152 packs too.....Mays, Snider, Spahn, Roberts, Bonds, Arod, Nomar,
Glavine...all with the same pull odds! That will never be done again.
Went to my target tonight and didn't see anything....if I remember right they are usually behind.
Kevin
this year i pre-ordered 3 cases from blowout/eastcwholesale at 491 per in late december. i busted two cases and made over 600 back selling dupes , chrome, refractors, double headers, and jersey cards. i gave my son an arod , randy johnson, and pujols jersey and a bunch of the chromes he wanted. sounds pretty good right? i had the third case sitting in my den a buddy said he wanted it, i sold it to him for cost. he pulled a red ink /55 mays, and an ichiro black refractor!!
Who does your kid collect? Do you put together and keep heritage sets?
JS
loth
to see no modern players in the 2002 set..I guess they are creaping back...but it does look like
your chances of pulling a Mays auto and an auto of a modern player are the same this year.
I know todays modern players pretty well but there are ALOT of new faces in this new
heritage set! Some of these rookies could be worth a bunch someday. Do you have any
spare 02 heritage Nix's laying around? LOL
Kevin
the ichiro is not the one on ebay, my friend vinny is keeping that as well as the mays.
i have put together complete master sets and the grandstand glory subsets since '01.
from 03 heritage do you?
